As an aside, has the same place ever recorded both the UK annual high and low before? That'd certainly be one for the record books!

Yup, Brogdale strikes again! Interesting that Brogdale now reports daily, IIRC it was monthly in 2003?

TBH, a bit of me hopes Brogdale keeps that 35.3 as this year's high. It's also got the year's low so far, -14.2C!

https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/climate/uk/interesting/february2018-snow

(And yes, that -14C is legit. I had -14C here, too, and on my 13-mile drive to work the car thermometer didn't get above -12C the whole way. Indeed, it went as low as -17C over the spine of the Isle, I wish there was an official weather station up there.)

I know from my house here used to have shingles half driveway in the 80's and the snow always melt quickly.  I didn't see much of the garden because there were trees when neighhours have none so all so I will remove it and leave over 1m foot trunk to hold my thermometer instead of the post as the trunk is in the middle of the garden.

Back home again. Left Covehithe beach and the car said 25C peaked at 33C on the way home before a huge Anvil out to the west blocked out the Sun. My WS has it at 31.2C right now with my max of 36.3C.

On the other side of the Channel the highs today (based on SYNOP stations only) were

Belgium

Ghent 38.2C

Netherlands

Arcen & Westdorpe 38.1C

So just missed out on a national record in both countries unless there are other stations which did get higher. Although the Dutch figure is a tie for the all time July temperature record.

However the Netherlands did break its highest minimum temperature record last night

https://www.weerplaza.nl/weerinhetnieuws/weerrecords/bizar-warme-nacht/4457/

https://www.dutchnews.nl/news/2018/07/thursday-was-the-warmest-night-on-record-as-the-heatwave-continues/

Lille in NE France recorded 37.6C today which is a city record.

27 July 2018 19:44:28

As expected not many places remained above 20C overnight. We need to wait for the SYNOP reports for a clearer picture but St James Park will probably be the warmest place. 21.1C at 0600.

Langdon Bay recorded an hourly low of 20.8C.

What an exciting few days.

Although next week is cooler overall compared to what was being shown; I for one have had a great summer fix. To be honest the last couple of days have been awful on the tube to and from work so it’s great to have some fresher weather.

When the rain arrived today everyone was so excited. It reminded me of when the first snowfalls arrive in winter.

Would love the summer to finish as a record breaker now!

Ignore the climate change introduction (or re-post the link in the climate forum if that's your bag) and scroll down to a useful list of record temps in Europe,

I'm guessing someone's pressed the wrong button, because on the met office sites regional section, I usually get the max for yesterday for this region. Only today it's displaying yesterday's LOWEST max. Shoeburyness wins that with 30.3C, unless of course, they're waiting to confirm final figures.

Those Met Office UK Extremes stats have a habit of messing up a few times each month, somehow or other.

Annoying, as that's the resource I refer to for my long-term highest and lowest UK temp statistics.

Temperatures of 36.2C then 35.6C and yesterday big drop to 23.9C felt quite chilly in the shade after not seeing 24C only once in early July. House temps was 30-32C then kept the windows open to reduce it to comfortable 25C and now all windows closed completely to keep warm inside today as it will be very cool so that another drop before rising back to average tomorrow then warming up.

the hottest uppers will push away this afternoon but we should easily get to low 30s widely

Not only the temperature but the humidity is much higher today. My PWS is currently at 25.9C with 61% humidity - a dew point of about 18C. Other PWSs in the area are as high as 19C.
