I left home in 31.5c at 3pm and drive 7 miles into town. Driving home half an hour ago and the road looked damp, then puddles and bigger puddles and the temp fell to 28c. At home hubby tells me I’ve missed thunder, lightning, hailstones, sqaul and rain gushing off guttering for at least ten minutes!  What!!!

It’s all dry again, back up to 30.6c, very sticky and sunshine now but I’m not ruling out more fun and games!

Agonisingly close to 30C. Reached 29.9c, we were very lucky with sunny spells this afternoon but then a horrible black cloud came and spoilt it when the temp was on 29.9c.
Down to 28.6c now in the shower.

A completely sunny last couple of hours means that a total of 10.7 hours of sunshine have now been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 5pm this afternoon, with a chance today could yet, end up being in the top three sunniest days of this month by sunset.

However, the temperatures continue to hit the headlines as well as it is still hot here. That little bit of a sea breeze which was around for a while during this afternoon has now subsided, which has therefore allowed the temperature to go back up again to the point where the temperature hasn't yet actually peaked for today.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 5pm this afternoon was 26.9ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, a rather hot 28ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 24.3ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which means that we could well have actually got to 30ºC at Edinburgh Airport during this afternoon had it not been for that sea breeze which cooled things down for a little while during this afternoon.

After the shower that passed through it is now 26C with a dew point of 21C, damp ground and the sun now coming out again. Are we in Florida?

So 28 C at Edinburgh Airport and I'll find out the exact temperature at my local Station (Swanston) tomorrow but we may well have had our hottest day of the year.

Up here on the south side we've had smoke all day from fires on Blackford Hill making it quite unpleasant

I can help you with that by confirming that today's maximum temperature at Swanston was 28.2ºC which makes today, the hottest day of this month so far at that station, as well as the second hottest day of the year, beaten only by the maximum temperature of 28.3ºC which was recorded there on 28 June 2018 according to that station's own website.

By the way, you can get more up to date data from Swanston weather station than what you get from that station's own website, by going to the Met Office's observation website at https://wow.metoffice.gov.uk. That will take you to a map from where you can then zoom in on Edinburgh. From there, you will see a circle on the south of Edinburgh with a temperature written inside it. That location is Swanston weather station. From there, you click on that circle and a small sub-window will then appear on the right-hand side which will then allow you to choose the full observations for that station.

From there, you will see that temperature readings at Swanston are actually taken every five minutes which is far more often than either the botanic gardens in Edinburgh or Edinburgh Gogarbank where those readings are taken just once every hour, and even more often that at Edinburgh Airport where those readings are taken every half an hour. Like the botanic gardens in Edinburgh and Edinburgh Gogarbank as well, those reading are also taken to the nearest 0.1ºC.

Thanks for the info John. Just braved the smoke to inspect the wildfire damage here. It's 26 C at 8pm, virtually unknown at this time here! Now we have swarms of flying ants.....all we need now is thunder!

Very unusual to have 23.3c at this time of night.  In 14 years Ive never had a +20c minima.  Id be surprised if that happened tonight IMBY, as my valley floor location tends to draw down  the denser less warm air as it oozes off The North Downs and spills into the Dour Valley hereabouts.

Surprisingly cool here at 20.9C. I suspect we won't go much lower tonight.

Today has been a mostly hot and sunny day with 14.6 hours of sunshine being recorded in the end at Edinburgh Gogarbank. That makes today, the third sunniest day of this month so far. However, we are now paying for that big time, as we have quite a massive thunderstorm going on just now with frequent thunder and lightning, as well as some torrential rain.

Today has been a hot day with a maximum temperature of 27.0ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 28ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 26.1ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. That makes today, the hottest day of this month so far at all three of my local stations. In addition to that, this also makes today, the hottest day of the year so far at both Edinburgh Airport and the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, as well as the second hottest day of the year so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

Hopefully, this latest thunderstorm will help to clear the air a bit, because it still feels absolutely roasting here which isn't going to make it easy for me to get to sleep tonight. Even as late as 10pm tonight, the temperature was 21.7ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 20ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 20.5ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
