That run of highs at Porthmadog at the end of the month was remarkable. For a spot in North West Wales, admittedly quite sheltered, to get the crown three times in a row and hold the annual max so far is quite an achievement.

Just returning to my post above and looking at the number of days where 30C or more was reached somewhere in the UK.

So far in 2018 we have recorded 16 days at 30C or more.

In 2006 we recorded a total of 18 days with 30C.

The data for 1976 is a little harder to pull together. But a quick exercise this morning reveals that there were at least 22 days at 30C or more in 1976 (there could be more). The way the current model output is shaping up we could well exceed this figure by say 10 August.

With three more likely this week we will be getting close to the 1976 figure.

However, in 1976 there were 5 days where 35C was exceeded (3 in June and 2 in July). None so far this year although we might manage one day above 35C this week.

Interesting article this am in the DM showing how much the world has warmed between 1976 and 2018. Does anyone still seriously doubt global warming is a reality?
