Last time I see stinging nettles died back was in August 1995 and will check the park this weekend to look at the parched landscape.  I see some ivy plants growing on the ground are dying and some areas around Heathrow Terminal 5 green bushes that border the roads to the terminal are turning yellow now.  Won't go green if only rain once but it take time to get green again if rain more and less dry days.

I guess then, that it is a case of normal service resumed in Manchester.

Nothing directly west of Manchester yet. Clinging onto our drought for now!

There was just a very slight spit of rain in the air when I was out and about a short while ago, and the latest radar maps even show a line of very light showers just clipping the East Lothian coastline. However, it is going to take a more than that to break this current drought which is now into its 22nd day at both Edinburgh Gogarbank and the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, I have also noticed that there is hardly any actual green grass left in my area as just about all of it has now been scorched brown by the tinder-dry conditions.

I've found that most grass has died but a couple of hardy weeds are still sitting there looking greener than ever in a field of yellow! My back garden has been a sea of bees lately which I assume has been because it is very dry. Getting fed up of bees, wasps, horseflies and houseflies. I had a bathroom with literally 30 mosquitos in it last week. That wasn't pleasant. Sounded like a dentist.

There's been a lack of ants though. They'll probably emerge soon when the rain and humidity sets in.

From Philip Eden's book it says the 73 days in Mile End, East London (1893). Also Margate, Kent with 42 days in 1995.

It’s been bone dry here since 8th June when we had a bit of unmeasurable rain and before that a good sharp downpour on 30th May.

I lived on the Isle of Wight during the summer of 76 , set aside the weather, what a time that was! ..my speedo tan lines only just fading! ...I think we had 70 days with the temperature over 27c/80f during that 3 month period, but I also believed that 12-15inches of rain fell in September..can anyone verify? I think there used to be a met man called ken Hoskings who kept detailed records.

I would be very interested in the accurate details.

Drought broken spectacularly with a downpour here.

I'm feeling really sad about it.

Must be 40-50 days since the last rain IMBY (although, given my memory recollections about the temps, I wouldn't be 100% sure)

Drought still hanging on by it's fingernails here but with storm clouds gathering I'm not sure it will stay dry for the rest of today which would make for 21 days without rain, a full 3 weeks which is quite a memorable event for these parts.

Heathrow has had one day of rain since 30 May (0.2mm on 17th June). I can’t believe there isn’t another site somewhere that avoided the rain on the 17th. Unfortunately my local one London City doesn’t seem to publish daily rain, as I don’t remember any in June.

Anyway, that makes 24 days since the last rain at LHR and 42 days since anything meaningful of 1mm or more. Looks like tomorrow will break the run, which is sad.

I am not sure about tom as today they were more around UK than forecasted to be sunny all day as we didn't seen much of sunshine around.  Perhaps tomorrow will be better and have to because of up coming hot weekend.  Those slow moving showers seem extremely boring and give lot of infill clouds all day.  I prefer what i seen abroad that cloud form quickly then storming and move off quickly so get lot of sunshine around.

The drought continues down here. The last day with any rain was the 7th June - 5 weeks ago:

Not much to come, either. The Met Office automated forecast has a 40% chance of some showers next Tuesday, but aside from that it's dry all the way...

No rain here since 31 May (43 days and counting) though there have been showers not too far away.
