This morning has brought us something which hasn't actually happened all that often during this summer so far in this part of the world due to all of the easterly winds which have been around, and that is a completely sunny early morning period which as at 8am this morning, has resulted in 2.7 hours of sunshine being recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

Last night's minimum temperature was 8.0ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 8ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 10.2ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, so last night ended up being a bit cooler than of late.

Once again though, the temperatures have started to respond quite nicely to the sunshine so that the temperature at 8am this morning was 14.0ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 14ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 14.5ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

27.1C at 1145

Hot and sunny

Today is one of those days when having a fan aspirated radiation shield makes a big difference to the accuracy of the temperature readings in a small, sheltered, walled garden like mine.

The Davis VP2 reading of 27.1C looks about right and has been fairly consistent with the Farnborough readings in recent days.

A thermometer in my standard wooden Stevenson Screen which has no fan is currently reading 28.2C so more than a full 1C higher.

A completely sunny morning has now led to a total of 6.7 hours of sunshine being recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank, as at 12 noon.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 12 noon was 21.4ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 20ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 19.5ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh although it feels a lot warmer than that out in that sunshine.

However, I am starting to notice from the data at Edinburgh Airport that we are starting to see the return of yet another breeze from the NE and when that sets in, the temperatures will then usually refuse to rise by all that much further during the day in this part of the world.

Some cumulus has bubbled up the last hour or so and it’s orobably going to slow down the very rapid rise in temperatures. Around 3 octas currently. Still feels like it’s on course to get to 32.

Skies are quite hazy too. This is more like a classic South East mini heatwave than the crystal clear skies and low humidity we had in the last 2 weeks.

After an overnight low of 19.3C it's currently 28.1C.

This is considerably lower & cooler feeling then the 32C of yesterday, that said some local stations have breached the 30C mark now.

Sensor showing 28c, it’s in the shade but not shielded, so not accurate but a fair idea and the car is also showing 28c.  Anyway, it’s hot and getting hotter!

Feels very hot outside. Hottest all year, which may be due to slightly higher humidity.

A fairly strong breeze, which will be helping to dedicate things further.
