Overshadowed by events elsewhere I know, but for the record, it reached 28.5*C here today thanks to the wind being more from the N than E< and along the way it's become a bit more humid and a lot less comfortable indoors - a price worth paying though for such an unusually prolonged spell of very warm maximums to continue to evolve (the weekend is looking even toastier!).

A bit disappointed not to have made 30*C yet but still in with a good shout for this spell, best chance Sunday by the looks of things.

It's been lovely at times here in the sun out the breeze, but we do have this nagging NE'ly keeping things cooler than it should ....makes sleeping at night a lot easier though

It’s gorgeous here today. Best day of the spell so far in terms of low humidity, light breeze and aquamarine sky. Not that warm yet - 22C. But sun is hot.

Still heading toward the high 20s here today, as the NE wind flows down into the valley after a decent length of land track.

Potentially 5 days in a row reaching at least 27*C. Nothing exceptional about that on its own, but factor in an increase in temperatures this weekend and what the models are generally indicating for next week, and it's a strong base on which to build a spell of weather that truly is.

30c here in Exeter earlier dipped back to 29c

Yet again another hot day - it's more of a rinse and repeat than anything! Going to be another uncomfortable night for sleeping! :(

Unexpectedly, it now feels hotter than yesterday here, and therefore the hottest of the spell so far. A properly blowtorch feel in the strong breeze. This being within air that earlier flowed onto N. Sea coasts at a temperature in the mid-high teens. Shows how strong the sun is at this time of year.

p.s. I see another fire has broken out - but this one's in London so unlikely to be weather related. Thoughts are with those affected.

Porthmadog has made it to 30c making it 5 days in a row that somewhere in the UK has. Not bad going how many more days can we get in a row?

No heatwave here though, with a high of just 16.4ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank under yet more of that easterly muck.

This is becoming painful now. Excuse the language but I wish this constant, endless heat would feck off.

Quite impressive that Shannon AP in Eire is still reporting 30c at 20.00... as far as I can see it's only being beaten by Getafe AB in Spain across the whole of Europe.

...then cooling off; synoptics look remarkably like July 2003 when it did not cool off after noon- in fact, in both cases, the gradient wind looks too fresh for a sea breeze intrusion. We shall see.

Just heading up north on the west coast mainline.

The plume of smoke from the Winter Hill fire is absolutely MASSIVE - in a small area to the west of the moors it is resembling an overcast day the smoke is that thick!

From a distance it resembles an anvil cloud.

The summer of 76 followed a hot summer of 1975 and a dry mild winter.so there is no need to be alarmist just enjoy it coz its been a long long time since we had a good summer and could be a long time before we get another one. These past two months have been fabulous for sunshine and warmth.

Iam curious as to how you rekon another 76 summer would be far worse for our economy and infrastructure than say the freeze we had in Feb/march this year??

(I still plan to get proper air-conditioning installed for the longer term, but apparently it requires an outdoor breaker switch and a dedicated 20A circuit. It's fiddly stuff, as the electrics are ancient in my house!)

I'm glad I called off going to the wolf centre today, as an aside (I had to make the decision earlier in the week.) I see it's 28C in the Reading area and under the searing strong sun it'd have been unbearable from my POV. The models have been consistently underplaying maxima down here, both in Reading and at home in Kent, for days on end. Today is a good example: forecast high 19C, but it's 23C outside.

In a way, this spell reminds me of the classing blocking easterly scenario in winter: a reinforcing block that keeps the breakdown at bay. The models will always show breakdowns at the 7 to 10 day range, but as with winter 2010 the breakdown is just a mirage. Inevitably when it does eventually break down the models will suddenly flip at a relatively short range!
