Overcast as that easterly muck has closed in once again and of course, anyone who has read my posts on these threads in recent times will know that this always leads to a dull and overcast start to the next day.

Meanwhile, the temperature at midnight was 11.6ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 11ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 13.0ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Cloud cleared almost the exact same time as yesterday, but seemed to clear NE to SW this time. (Still looks a bit cloudy to SW)

When I went to bed last night after starting off this thread, that east coast muck had closed in and because of that, I had expected another dull and overcast start to this morning since that is what usually always happens at this time of year under an easterly at this time of year in this part of the world.

That is not what has happened this time though and instead of that expected dull and overcast start to the day, we have much to my own surprise and astonishment, a bright and sunny start to this morning with 2.2 hours of sunshine having been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8am this morning.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature was 11.2ºC at Swanston in the south of Edinburgh, 9.8ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 8ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 10.5ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was 15.7ºC at Swanston, 16.0ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 15ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 16.5ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Absolutely stunning morning here - just about as good as it can possibly get in this country.

For once it's actually starting off clear and sunny at this end. Even the current 21.0 C & 75% H is feeling warm in the brisk nor'easter wind. Isn't helping the dryness situation, though.

Things are warming up quite nicely here in Edinburgh now with 4.2 hours of sunshine having now been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 10am this morning.

I'm not expecting the temperatures to reach anything like the 31ºC which is being predicted for that certain other big city just 40 miles or so to the west of here at the other end of the M8 motorway.

Nevertheless, I can report that the the temperature even as early as 10am this morning was already up at 22.1ºC at Swanston, 21.4ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 21ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 20.7ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

This means that even without being one of the hottest parts of the country, it is still looking like quite a hot one by our usual standards here today, anyway.

Just reached 24 C & 65% H while still in full sunshine despite the nagging nor'easter. Going by the latest satellite image and temperature data, poor North Kent isn't having much luck with low cloud still hanging on over there.

The temperature at 12 noon was 26.1ºC at Swanston, 26.1ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 25ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 24.4ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

This means that today will now go down as the hottest day of the year so far at Swanston, Edinburgh Gogarbank and Edinburgh Airport. With the temperatures continuing to shoot up just now, it is probably only a matter of time before the botanic gardens in Edinburgh follows suit because even there, it is already the second hottest day of the year so far.

The temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank has now jumped up to 28.0ºC as at 1pm.

I haven't been expecting 30ºC here in Edinburgh today but with the manner in which the temperature is continuing to shoot up just now, that could well be on the cards as we are already not all that far short of the 30ºC at the moment.

As it is, this is only first time this year that the temperature has gone above 80ºF in this part of world and that is something which didn't even happen at all at any point during last summer.
