Looks like the winds have switched to more of a direct easterly which has blown the wildfire smoke right over my area. As a result it's restricted the temperatures: just over 26°C here, compared to the 29s and 30s futher west. Sunlight is also of a slightly yellowish tint.

Very much reminds me of ex-Hurricane Ophelia last year, though the atmospheric affects this time are nowhere near as pronounced as that was.

I think its also cooler away from the far W Coast as the NE wind off the north sea is having an influence across most areas.

Feels very pleasant outside today, but much cooler despite the wall to wall sunshine. 23.2c now.

A very pleasant just over 30C and a F3 easterly breeze and clear blue skies. The air must be dry as it's very comfortable to be out and about.

According to the Met Office on twitter the hottest so far is Porthmadog (which was also yesterday's winner), at 31.9C. It's not one of the stations that report automatically online.

Seems to be 31C in Aviemore too.

The wonderful system we have in place where the publically funded Met Office maintains a series of stations that only report into the Met Office network and have to be purchased.

Seems like the 90f prize is within reach today. Nice to see some different places in the running for a change. Gorgeous day here in the south east but probably not even in the 80s. That’s fine by me as the sky is crystal clear and that sun is strong! The breeze is gorgeous and we’ll all be able to sleep tonight!

He is, as far as I know, in Aberdeen where it is pleasantly warm and sunny away from the immediate coastline (and not in Inverbervie). Ithas been a lovely day here so far but the haar has always been visible in the distance.

The 31°C in Aviemore is rather impressive.

This is now the longest unbroken run of truly Mediterranean-style weather (breezy, yet very warm with a comfortably dry feel) I can remember seeing here (let alone so widely across the UK!), and it still has a couple more days to run before the humidity steps up a bit.

It's great to watch the peak heat shifting about with the winds, much as you can do during typical high summer weather when staying within 50-odd miles of Europe's Mediterranean coastlines.

Today has behaved differently to the last few in terms of the diurnal pattern though; it was breezier in the morning as the flow across the land dominated proceedings, but this afternoon it's less windy than the preceding few days thanks to the sea breeze being held back near the coast.

As a result, temperatures have climbed more slowly today, but haven't hit an early- or mid-afternoon plateau as was the case each of the very warm days Sun-Tue. It was 26*C at 3 pm but passed the 27*C mark at 4 pm and is still climbing as I type this, keeping me on target for the third day in a row to peak in the 28s.

I had hoped that the land breeze setup would allow temps to get into the 29s today, but it seems the flow is a bit too far toward E as opposed to N; the land track increases greatly when comparing the latter direction of flow with the former.

Tomorrow and Friday should be more toward N (probably averaging close to NE), so they will bring my best chance to see 30*C from this spell, unless the sea breeze is unexpectedly weak and/or the flow stays more toward NE than expected on Saturday.

ARPEGE votes for Friday but I'm not ruling out tomorrow .

Incidentally, last year's mid-June spell peaked in the 31s for me, so it looks unlikely that this one will beat that one for peak temps - but for duration and dryness it's another matter!

A long walk on the plateau will be a tough thing today with little wind and no water anywhere up high. You would need to carry several litres of water just to stay hydrated.

'Only' 28*C maximum here today, but taking place in the evening and with the breeze easing down, making for among the hottest feel to conditions so far in this spell.

This continues the run of the most comfortable high-20s I can recall here, but the humidity has edged up a little today, into the high 40s %, so there's just a tad more of a sweat building in the sun now.
