The NI record is only 30.8C at Fermanagh on 30 June 1976 and Belfast 12 July 1983 (hot day for the marchers...). So I think that’s beatable too.

Whenever it’s hot and dry people on here remind us that nature likes to redress the balance. Which of course is correct long term but shaky to say the least short term. But anyway, I’m subscribing to the theory this week: the balance would be nicely redressed by the hottest weather returning with a vengeance to the South East next week.

The Apegge and the Harmonie (now the official short range model of Met Eireann) have consistently forecast higher temperatures for the greater Midwest region of Ireland over the last couple of days than what were recorded. For today, both models showed highs of 32 to 34c but top temp in the midlands and west of the country reached 'only' 30 to 31c. I'd not be surprised though to see a 32c reached tomorrow.

An indication of just how well the Iberian low is being held at bay in the 12z runs generally - ARPEGE shows the air turning drier again on Sunday, as opposed to the increased humidity that was being advertised this morning.

I see that it was a rather impressive 20°C at 7:20am at Kirkwall!

(In case that does not seem impressive, that threshold has only been breached six times in the past 4 years)

Even here in Edinburgh, I think that it might well end up being a bit warmer than what we have been seeing on recent days. The east coast muck which was around at midnight isn't there this morning and for a change, we actually have a bright and sunny morning.

Furthermore, the data from Edinburgh Gogarbank and Edinburgh Airport suggests that there is no longer that consistent easterly wind which we have been seeing recently which suggests that the area of high pressure may well have drifted slightly further south during the night to be sitting right on top of here just now.

If that is the case, that would be enough to cut off that easterly wind. Of course, this doesn't mean that the east coast won't still be cooler during today anyway due to the development of a local sea breeze, but I believe that Jerry's neck of the woods in the south of Edinburgh in particular, could end up seeing some fairly high temperatures during today.

So it’s yet another warm, sunny and clear morning in Manchester.

With a sunny and clear outlook for as far as the eye can see, this really is an absolutely incredible spell of weather for this part of the country.

For anyone who knows Manchester we were out in Castlefield last night. The bars were all way too busy so we bought some wine and cider from the shop and sat on the green. Loads of people were doing the same and it was a fantastic atmosphere, helped by the fact Chic were about to start an outdoor concert next door at Castlefield Bowl.

It was still roasting hot, the sky was clear, the ground was tinder dry, and there was a distinct, lovely bonfire smell in the air. The city has taken on a different feel this summer and it’s bloody brilliant - there is a real sense now of an exceptional spell such as 1995 or 1976.

If only it was like this all the time. :)

Same here - another stunner this morning - it's nearly 9am and the nearest weather station to me is already reporting 24 degrees!

Not often you see this in the forecast either:

Regional Forecast for Northern Ireland

Headline:

Hot or very hot.

Today:

It will be dry and sunny and becoming hot or very hot, perhaps the hottest day on record which currently stands at 30.8 Celsius. Some refreshing seas breezes will develop around the coasts in the afternoon. Maximum temperature 30 °C.

I've just read that the Army and the RAF have now been called to deal with that massive fire in the NW of England and this shows just serious things have become there in that part of the world.

We’ve still not breached the 30c mark much as I alluded to previously, we did manage 27.2c yesterday but we could break that today. We shall see. 🙂

I could get used to this... but, given the crappy British climate, likely won't get the chance.

Further inland Aboyne is presently running 5C warmer today than at this time yesterday. Max yesterday was 30.1C and of course it won't stay 5C ahead, but all the sun's energy will be going into raising the bottom 5000 feet of air, so very interesting to see what transpires this afternoon. Arpege hinted at 32C inland Aberdeenshire although that model has overdone temps somewhat. GFS only going for about 25 so already wrong.

I still think the title of this thread is a bit misleading given there is no heatwave for most of us, just pleasantly warm weather. This current spell of weather reminds me of late May 2012.

I noticed on Sky News the Met Office said "It will be staying dry and warm. From Wednesday next week the high pressure could start to fall away, allowing some fronts to move in from the west."

Hoping that's not the case but if it does then I'm hoping it is good timing to have a bit of a wobble then we can go into the main part of summer, 2nd half of July/beginning of August with a fresh new reload!
