I can now confirm that today will now go down as the warmest day of the summer so far at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh where the temperature at 3pm this afternoon was 22.3ºC at 3pm, and at Edinburgh Airport where the temperature at that time was 22ºC.

In addition to that, the temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank at 3pm was 21.4ºC with 9.5 hours of sunshine having been recorded for today so far at that time. That makes today the second warmest day of the year so far at that station.

From December 27th 2020, zonality will be banned from mixing with the UK. We appreciate that this may come as a shock to younger people and old Uncle Barty. This ban will last for a minimum of ten days.

Here in Edinburgh, we have had continuous unbroken sunshine since around dawn and now, 11.5 hours of sunshine have been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 5pm this afternoon. Since there is still not a single cloud to be seen anywhere, there is no reason now why today can't now go on to end up being our sunniest day of the year with a total which could end up being very hard to beat from now on since we are now past the longest day (as it gets darker at nights from now, it will get harder over time to be able to carry on building up really high sunshine totals during each successive day from now on).

The temperature is completely unchanged at all three of my local stations during the last hour, which suggests that we have now reached today's maximum temperature which is 22.2ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 22ºC at Edinburgh Airport 22.8ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. Those are the latest temperatures as at 5pm as well as the likely maximum temperatures and so unless I confirm otherwise later on, those can now safely go down as today's maximum temperatures. That makes today, the warmest day of 2018 so far at both the botanic gardens in Edinburgh and Edinburgh Airport. That also makes today the second warmest day of both this summer and the whole of 2018 so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank. The next few days though are forecast to be even warmer still and as a result of that, it looks likely that well have seen the highest temperature of 2018 so far at all three of my local stations during those coming days.

The temperature at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh has now gone up to 23.1ºC as at 6pm this evening. That is now today's maximum temperature at that station so far on what was already the warmest day of the year so far there. Meanwhile, the temperature is now slowly starting to drop at Edinburgh Gogarbank and should now slowly start to do so at the other stations as well from now on with it being so late in the day now.

At the end of a very eventful day, an incredible (made even more incredible by the fact that this has happened during a weekend as well) total of 16.3 hours of sunshine was recorded in the end at Edinburgh Gogarbank. That makes today by far, the sunniest day of 2018 so far and given that we are now past the longest day, we will be doing very well to beat that at point during this year even though the next few days are forecast to be sunny as well.

Today's maximum temperature in the end just to sum up, was 22.2ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 22ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 23.1ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. That makes today the warmest day of the year so far at Edinburgh Airport and the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. Even at Edinburgh Gogarbank, today was the second warmest day of the summer so far.

All in all, this has been a very impressive summer's day and if we had weather like this all the time, I doubt that there would be any need for people to go abroad for their holidays.

Anyway, the temperature at 10pm tonight was 16.2ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 16ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 17.1ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
