Storm Hector has now made his presence felt here as it is very windy here with the winds already gusting up to 39.1mph from the SSW as at midnight and the noise which that howling wind is making just outside my front door, is not going to make for a great night for sleeping as a result. This is something which I'm used to experiencing during the winter which is on average, when most of our named storms normally happen but I'm not normally used to that at this time of year during what is supposed to be our "summer".

The rain associated with that system did also finally reach us for a short period of time, although it is now drying up again as I write. In the end, this resulted in a total of 1.4 mm of rain being recorded for yesterday at Edinburgh Gogarbank (where yesterday will therefore, go down as an official rain day as a result) along with 0.4 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at midnight was 14.3ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 14ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 14.6ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh so that this is also turning out to be quite a warm and sticky night, even for this time of the year.

Thread title is wrong!

As expected trivial amount of rain just 0.2mm recorded but wind is howling.

Highest gust so far only 38mph, but supposed to peak about 11am here.

Sun breaking through already.

That's just one of these things which can happen I suppose, when it's very late at night at a time when I am very tired and just about to go to bed.

Anyway, it remains very windy here thanks to Storm Hector and so far, today's highest gusts have got up to 55.3mph from the SW at Edinburgh Gogarbank. Apart from that though, there is still very little actually happening here. We have had some cloudy periods with even the odd very light passing shower, but there has been nothing there which has actually came to anything and there has been some reasonable sunny periods as well. The end result of this though is that a total of just 24 minutes of sunshine have been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogabank as at 8am this morning.

This means that apart from the change in wind velocity in terms of both the speed and direction of the wind, there still isn't really anything happening which is all that different from what we were seeing beforehand. This means that the sunshine totals at this time of the day remain very poor (although we are at least getting a little bit of sunshine at this time of the day now), and the gardens in this part of the world are still not getting anything like the amount of rain which they need to to be getting after it being so dry for so long.

Last night's minimum temperatures were 13.8ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 14ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 14.5ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, thus making last night the warmest night of the year so far at all three of my local stations.

Meanwhile, today is continuing on that warm theme so far and the temperature at 8am this morning was already up at 16.0ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 16ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 17.0ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh although those temperatures have started to drop back a bit during the last hour or so.

A notably windy morning for early summer. Feels more like a breezy late autumn morning instead. Currently 16.8C and dry, with very little rainfall overnight (0.6mm).

Certainly blown all the cobwebs away though.

So far it is still bone dry and the wind really isn't anything out of the ordinary, just merely making the current 15 C feel very fresh and airy - but I'm not really liking the gloominess with lights on indoors, although it was quite bright earlier on.

It's still very windy here with today's maximum wind gusts having now reached 58.4mph from the WSW at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon.

Apart from that, today is just carried on the theme of being a mixture of some cloud and some sunny intervals, but with a total of just 1.9 hours of sunshine having been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon.

Where a while, it had looked as though today would end up being quite a warm day but then, the temperatures then refused to do as they're told by going up any further (in the winter, I want the temperatures to be dropping but now that we are into the summer, the reverse is true so that I now want the temperatures to be going up) and in fact, they have actually been dropping as the morning has gone on due to some cooler and fresher air moving in.

Those early morning maximum temperatures reached 16.7ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 17ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 17.8ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

As at 12 noon though, the temperature has dropped to 14.2ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 15ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 15.2ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

It's still very windy here in Edinburgh and although it's not quite as windy as it was earlier on today, the winds are still gusting up to 43.5mph from the west at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 5pm this afternoon.

Apart from that, this afternoon has brought some occasional sunny intervals and only the odd very brief passing shower. This has resulted in a total of 3.5 hours of sunshine being recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 5pm this afternoon.

Meanwhile, the temperatures have steadied a bit during this afternoon, and have generally been around the 15ºC mark.
