Yet another desperately SAD and soul destroyingly awful summer continues.

1.3 hours sun in the past three days and I've woken up to disgusting overcast grot for the 6th successive morning. Temperature is academic really but it is 12.1C.

I thought the westerlies were going to be returning but the wind is a vile SE'ly and I can't even remember the last time it came from the W or SW.

This is a worse spell than there was the whole of last winter. It's horrific.

There is still a lot of cloud around as there normally is at this time of the morning these days, but there are some good sunny spells getting through as well, although this has only resulted in just 24 minutes of sunshine being recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8am this morning.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature was 7.6ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 7ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 9.3ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, so it was a cooler and fresher night than of late and this is the first time for quite a while, that the temperature has dropped down to single figures at all three of my local stations.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was 11.7ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 12ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 12.9ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

It's just a shame now, that it is all being forecast to go downhill later on with the arrival of an Atlantic weather system what would probably undoubtedly be classed as a named storm if the same thing happened during the winter and of course, it wouldn't then surprise me if that was "it" for our summer after that.

It's now clouded over ahead of the approaching weather system and so once again, the annual June permacast is back underway. Having said that though, a total of 3.2 hours of sunshine have been recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon. Given the latest forecast though, we might struggling to get much more than that during the rest of today.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 12 noon was 16.1ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 17ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 15.8ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Sun came out for exactly an hour around lunchtime and that made it the sunniest day for four days. Absolutely disgusting

Now we have yet another write-off grey chilly evening with a useless 0.2mm of rain having fallen thus far. Temp 13.6C

The main headline just now, is all about Storm Hector (the first named storm to have occurred during the summer as far as I know, since it is mostly always during the winter that we would expect to be seeing these things) making its approach into the UK and you would think that this would at generate a bit of excitement here.

Yet in spite of all of that, Edinburgh once again shows its hand as being one of the most boring parts of the UK when it comes to our we weather. We have had a change of wind direction with the wind having picked up a bit as Storm Hector makes his approach towards us. Yet apart from that, not single thing about our weather has actually changed as we still have those same old constant grey skies as before and remain in that same old permacast hell as before with nothing of any interest actually happening. That in turn means that just 3.3 hours of sunshine have been recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 5pm this afternoon.

A bit more wind might generate a bit more excitement, but what our gardens really could do with just now is a bit of rain, especially since it has been so dry for so long now. According to the latest radar map, even Richard from Aberdeen appears to be getting a little bit of that rain which he has been hoping to get in order to end the drought in his part of the world. Yet Edinburgh stands virtually completely on its own just now as being the virtually the only place in this part of the world that is not getting any rain just now.

To be honest, I just feel really sick and tired of reporting the same old boring crap on these threads all the time and it now seems as though, this has become the case now in this modern era, regardless of what the actual synoptics throw at us. This has now brought me to the point where unless something changes very soon and quickly as regards to our weather, I see no pointing in carrying on any longer with reporting that on these threads because I'm sure that everyone else is probably getting bored with just hearing about the same old boring rubbish all the time.

Anyway, today's maximum temperature was 16.7ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 17ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 17.2ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 5pm this afternoon was 15.8ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 16ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 16.4ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

A mostly sunny and warm day with a couple of brief cloudy spells that looked like they might deliver but avoided us once again.  So yet again I’ll have to water the bedding plants. Currently hazy sunshine and 22c.

PS - I’m not complaining. It’s been amazing weather for the past six weeks!
