After a brief brighter interlude for a day or so back to the grey, cool, thick cloud yet again.

It turned into a lovely autumn afternoon here with blue skies and late autumn sunshine albeit with a chilly breeze.

A big change in the weather today. A bit on the cold side, but it's nice to have some sunshine along with excellent air clarity. I can see right across Lancashire to some of the distant Cumbrian fells sticking up from under the horizon this morning.

Here are the weekend rainfall stats following on from yesterdays sunshine figures and they are equally as appalling

Average daily weekend rainfall (mm) Sept - Nov

2021 4.91
2020 4.59
2019 3.69
2014 3.37
2009 2.36
2016 2.32
2015 1.88
2018 1.88
2013 1.81
2011 1.63
2017 1.62
2007 1.62
2010 1.38
2012 1.38
2008 1.05

What is most astounding is that 2019 was the highest by a considerable margin only for that to be smashed in 2020 and smashed again this year  Extraordinary bleak, depressing and pitiful times we are living in

Today is just another horror show - possibly the vilest yet. Almost persistent rain, rather than showers, with little sun and only 4.6C bringing back horrific memories of the revolting winter just gone. 4.8mm already so by the end of the day the rainfall figure above will have increased even further. In fact the way its lashing down at the moment 5mm will probably be hit within the next 5 minutes or so

Note that the forecast min of 5C was way off. It got down to 2.5C which still isn't remotely cold but shows the shocking state of weather forecasting these days for a temperature to be that far out at less than 24 hours

Aberdeen: The only place that misses out on everything

That is shocking. What has happened to the Aberdeen climate in the past decade to make it so appalling ? Do you have any ideas ?

Air frost last night, air frost tonight. I make that about the 6th of the autumn. Cars have been frozen over since about 8pm.

I’m out with he dog just now and grass is nice and crunchy.

Conversely, we still haven't had a single air frost during this autumn here in Edinburgh and with too much cloud still hanging around, the temperatures even during tonight are still refusing to drop.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

Luckily, we have now finally got that elusive first air frost of the season in the end thanks to much clearer skies in the end. At the same time, I'm still not writing off our chances of a cold winter, especially since we still managed to get a decent summer this year even though it took unti around the end of May for us to get our first maximum temperature of the year, of 20°C or above.

Nevertheless, what has happened beforehand shows that Edinburgh just doesn't normally get any sort of "interesting" weather.

So looks like no autumn frost again here. Current snow band moving through Midlands will fizzzle out before it gets here continuing the trend of no lying snow here to speak of in Autumn or winter for the last 8 years.

As predicted snow went west of London. At least there was a frost overnight. Grandchildren's new plastic sledges that I bought after 2013 will have to wait although of course they are now 16 and 19 !
