There is a lot of cloud to my west, but also some decent sunshine although a total of just 6 minutes of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8am this morning.

According to the hourly data from weathercast.co.uk, last night's overnight minimum temperature was 15.8°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 14°C at Edinburgh Airport and 16.3°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. According to this morning's SYNOP data, the true overnight minimum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank was actually 15.6°C although the data from weatheronline.co.uk for Edinburgh Airport agrees with the hourly data from weathercast.co.uk as regards to the overnight minimum temperature at Edinburgh Airport.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was 19.6°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 20°C at Edinburgh Airport and 20.1°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. Things are hotting up once again and this time, there isn't any onshore breeze from off the North Sea to cool things down, so we could really do with getting some rain now.

I heard some rumbles of thunder overnight, and in the past hour a line of thunderstorms has passed just to the West of here, with the last one extending eastwards a bit to give us the heavy shower noted above.

 

The heat yesterday was certainly an experience, and not one that I would like to repeat any time soon.  Interesting but exhausting.
