There will be a partial lunar eclipse at moonrise on the evening of 16th July. The maximum of the partial phase is around 10.32pm and the altitude of the moon at maximum partiality depends on where you are located in the UK

For instance from London the moon will be about 8.7° above the horizon

Manchester about 6.3°

Edinburgh about 4.1°

Belfast about 4.1°

Lerwick about 1.4°

The partial phase ends around midnight and the penumbral phase around 1.17am

A clear sky would be nice. Since taking up Astrophotography last October I've had about 5 clear nights when the moon phase has been right. One night last week but none since or for the forseeable! Seeing tonight is predicted as zero! I need some fast moving Atlantic weather I think and hope to catch some clear air in between fronts. This half hearted HP is rubbish.

Might have a look, FW, but won't bother putting out the 'scope. That's asking for cloud cover.

Going to be cloudy in my area. But hoping for some breaks in the cloud.

Others just get wet.

I read on the BBC site this morning that there is some confusion between astrologers and astronomers. Again.
Wonder how long it will take for a correction on the site.

Only partly cloudy this evening now so scopes will be out and longer lens on the camera.

Cloudy here as the moon rises to join Saturn and Jupiter in the SE sky. Very frustrating! It will probably have to be a binocular job if there's a break in the cloud! Roger

I’m in Kefalonia in Greece, but the very unsettled weather we’re having mean it’s currently cloudy (the moon is behind the anvil of an MCS south of Zante). Will stay up a little longer but it’s nearly midnight!
