The difference in conditions this month has been vast; my local mean sits at 16.12*C. In fact it's hard to comprehend that the CET is sub-15*C right now - though it must be within a chance of finishing more or less at 15*C thanks to the warm final few days.

Around here it's been a weird month really, with only one notable spell of rain and a large number of calm, cloudy yet unseasonably warm days. Yesterday took that to the extreme, feeling more like a naff (on account of only a glimmer of sun) but very usable day... in July!

Yes there is quite a contrast around the UK this month. The south and the north are a long way above average whereas central areas have been less warm.

Using 1981-2010 data from Roger Brugge's site http://www.met.reading.ac.uk/~brugge/CURR.html

Carlisle is 1.5C above normal and Altnaharra is 2.0C above normal.

In the south Boscombe Down is 1.6C above normal and Heathrow 1.5C

However, in the CET area Pershore is only 0.8C above normal and Dishforth (not too far from Stonyhurst) 0.7C above normal.

That is quite interesting, my local mean anomaly is +1.0C, so kind of fits in with Pershore et al.

Still 12.6C (+0.1) here, can't change much now.

12.4c here which is higher than the 11.5c of last month, rather unusual.

We also had 3 air frosts last month and have had none this month with the lowest being 3.1c

Hopefully it'll just squeak in at 15.1c...

The provisional Hadley figures finished at 15.18C which is the same as August
http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/hadobs/hadcet/cet_mean_est_2014

The final data after month end adjustments is currently only available to the 29th so we are missing one day. Hopefully this will be rectified shortly http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/hadobs/hadcet/cet_mean_2014

If we take the final data for the first 29 days and the provisional for the final day this gives a CET of 15.08C. So it looks like we will end up at 15.1C and higher than the August CET.

CET annual competition - September update

Darren S has extended his lead this month at the top of the table while Gusty just about holds on to second place. There are a number of people continuing to climb up into the top 10 reaching their highest position of the year. marting is up four places this month to sixth, Saint Snow is up eight to 8th, wallaw up four to 9th and Edicius81 up two to 10th. At the other end of the table vince is once again propping us up after he failed to make a prediction in September.

So it's official then that September has finished warmer than August...15.08 to 14.95

That's only the 3rd time since 1900 along with 1956 and 2006. Another amazing stat in this incredible few years of weather...where will it all lead?

Just a small suggestion if I may, would it be possible to file the monthly CET threads into a separate file for ease of access? eg It took me a while to find the August CET thread to get the final figures.

Cheers
