This morning has started off on a bright and sunny note here in Edinburgh once again, although there is a lot more in the way of high cloud around.

Last night, it cooled down to an overnight minimum temperature of 11.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

However, the temperatures are rising quite quickly once again in response to that sunshine and as at 9am BST (08:00 UTC) this morning, the temperature here in Edinburgh was already at around 20°C, so today could well end up being another hot one here.

Deliciously warm and 24C nudging 25C already here. Interestingly this warm/hot spell hasn't been preceded by sea fog. The wind hasn't been coming up from the South or South West.

It's a dry low humidity sort of warmth without the stickiness we sometimes get. Well so far anyway.

Near unbroken sunshine. Even though it is a sensible 22.5 C (71% H) in light winds, the sun rays are packing a punch.

As a result of there being a lot of high cloud around, today was never going to be anything like as sunny as yesterday.

Nevertheless, that sunshine was still getting through for most of the time during today, but that cloud has got thicker and it has now completely clouded over here.

As a result, a total of just 4.8 hours of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 2pm BST (13:00 UTC) this afternoon.

Today has been another hot day though and for a while, it had looked as today was once again, going to end up being our hottest day of this year so.

However, the wind has also picked up a bit and the presence of too much cloud and too much wind is now causing the temperatures to refuse to rise any further, although today will still go down as our second hottest day of this year so far.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 2pm BST (13:00 UTC) was around 25°C here in Edinburgh.

31.9c was the high today, which is my joint highest of the year with 17th June 2022. Lots more cloudy and very sultry now which is going to make a hot night.

Normal service has now been well and truly resumed here in Edinburgh with a return to constant grey skies, but with absolutely nothing happening in terms of actual interesting weather.

As a result, a total of just 5.0 hours of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh as at 7pm BST (18:00 UTC) this evening, but with absolutely nothing at all in that department since 2pm this afternoon.

Today was our second hottest day of this year so far with a maximum temperature of 25.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 25.9°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh and 26°C at Edinburgh Airport.

However, those temperatures were achieved very early on at around lunchtime before those clouds moved in and scuppered our chances of seeing today go down as our hottest day of the year so far.

However, it is very muggy here just now, and the temperature at 7pm BST (18:00 UTC) this evening was still up at around 21°C here in Edinburgh.

Still 24.0c here at 9.30pm under high cloud which is remarkably warm for the edge of the City.

High 29.4c when the sun came back out again around 4pm
