Lowest from an official Met Office observing site has been -9.4C at Tulloch Bridge on 12th April. That same night one of Lee's stations at Roberton in the Scottish Borders recorded -10.3C.

Average minimum for April here has been -1.6C that's 5.7C lower than normal and 1C lower than January
-3.3 again last night.

None of these look all that soft but we shouldn't rule it out.

To break the minimax record we need a 'feature' coming into cold air. To break the minimin record slack winds under a cold airmass should do it.

Return of the subzero nights here too, with a -1.3°C minimum.

Follows three above zero but still very chilly nights, only kept frost-free by a keen breeze.

14 subzero nights so far this month, of which an April record 9 in a row occurred 12th-20th. Prior record was 7!

Mean minimum for 1st-27th is a mere 0.49°C. The 1943-2020 lowest record is 2.03°C set 1986, so we're running a staggering 1.54°C below it!

Tonight looks much less cold with a 5-6°C minimum, but tomorrow night could hit freezing again, with the last night of the month similar.

Latest projected final mean minimum is 0.64°C, which would break the old record by a margin of 1.39°C.

Plenty of frosty early mornings here this month just 3 miles north of Eastbourne  remarkable in this location

I can confirm here. Fell to 6.3'c recently

I find it quite extraordinary that we have endured relentless days of cold weather with continuous NE winds since early April. Furthermore there is no sign of the cold spell changing for the next two weeks or even possibly longer. Here in Fulham just 11 degrees tops but feels like 7-8 degrees. The sun has gone now replaced by dark skies and rain showers.....
