It's clouded over quite a bit after a sunny start, but is still a reasonably useful type of day - well, at least it's not pouring down.

A comfortable 20.5 C and 75% H with something of a W breeze.

Warm and sunny now in London after some stubborn cloud this morning. Currently 24c. Should hit 25c quite easily today, possibly higher.

As the warmer uppers drift over, and with them more humid advected air, the cloud has now obscured the sky; but it is bright cloud, and with a temperature of 23C it is edging on sticky outside.

First of all, it feels strange, to be making only first contribution towards any current conditions thread at such a late stage of the day, but that is what happens when you are away from the forum for a while. Jerry from the south side of Edinburgh has at least, kept everyone up to date with what the weather has been like in this part of the world over the last few days and so, I won't go too much into that (in any case, I would be technically going off-topic if I did so since this is the current conditions thread and not any sort of past conditions thread).

The only thing which I will say is that after a couple of horrendously wet and miserable days with quite a lot of rain and with nothing in the way of sunshine being recorded for either of those days at Edinburgh Gogarbank, today brought us only a modest improvement on that although this wasn't enough to prevent today from being yet another very poor day in the context of what the rest of this summer has been like.

There has at least, been the odd appearance of the Sun during the day, especially later on this afternoon and evening. However, yet another abysmal total of just 42 minutes of sunshine was recorded in the end at Edinburgh Gogarbank for the whole of today.

As I am about to say that this evening has been mostly cloudy and overcast, this is the perfect example where in the past, I would have been tempted to describe that in a certain manner in which I am now going to refrain from, in the spirit of my new way of posting things which doesn't make me sound more like a certain member from Aberdeen.

In addition to today being mostly cloudy though, there was also a spell of rain just before lunchtime, although that cleared away quite quickly during the afternoon. This has resulted in a total of 2.4 mm of rain being recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 9pm this evening, along with 1.4 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. This means that today will now go down as yet another official rain day at both of those stations, with today now being the third day in a row where this has been the case.

Today's maximum temperature was 18.5°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 19°C at Edinburgh Airport and 18.8°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 9pm this evening was 16.6°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 17°C at Edinburgh Airport and 17.3°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, so it is rather warm and humid here this evening just as it has been for much of this summer.
