the lava as cover all Bandeira village when a few days ago was at 600m away, but this Sunday activity increase was enough for cover that distance.
If the lava flow reaches Fernão Lopes village then would be a catastrophic event due the island geography witn deep slops downards to the main populated ares near the sea...

The eruption continues strongly at Holuhraun. Frequent earthquakes continues to occur Bárðarbunga. See http://www.jonfr.com/volcano/.

A nice video of the eruption can be seen here; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6FJP5bZ6G4&feature=share.

The eruption is also producing significant amount of SO2; http://thewatchers.adorraeli.com/2015/01/24/very-high-values-of-so2-emissions-from-holuhraun-eruption-site-iceland/.

I'd be interested to know if SO2 emissions could be smelt over northern UK later this coming week.

I remember my first day in Iceland a few years back.

That SO2 smell was all pervasive.

A whiff of it over the next few days would bring back some good memories.

Article in today's Times picking up on the consequences for livestock farming of continuing SO2 emissions. But it looks as if they cribbed the copy from this non-paywall article last week

Yes indeed. Being a rifting event I would be surprised if activity is totally finished.

The previous Icelandic event occured in the run up to the 2010 election....

But it does look as if the Bardabunga  event is over. A silent fart in the end, rather than the explosive diarrohea some were expecting

The largest lava eruption and rifting event for decades.

For clarification the earthquake and subsidence activity at Bárðarbunga is continuing to an extent even if the Holuhraun rifting eruption has stopped. The"Bárðarbunga event" may very well not be over and the coming days, weeks or months will tell.

Yes, the Holuhraun eruption event has stopped, at least for now.

However, the rifting still continues in this area and further eruptions are likely;
