It's been steadily snowing, with very large flakes, for an hour now. It  is settling on roofs and the grass now and the sound has become deadened, which was when I realised it must be starting to settle. It's been a long while since I have seen snow this big and heavy. The temperature is also going down. I really wasn't expecting it to be quite like this, from any of the forecasts, and the MetO Yellow warning I took with a pinch of salt.

I do hope it eases off soon though as we're off to a birthday celebration, for one of the local Ladies, but it's out of the Village so driving is required!

As I am finishing this post it's becoming so intense it could almost be blizzard conditions!☃️❄️

Yes, some wet sleet amongst the rain. Talk about desperate! 20 years ago this would definitely been a transient snow event here as wit the North which of course would have had a disruptive transient fall. 12.3mm of rain, second highest of the year so far.

From 8.30am we started to have sleet turning more and more to snow and then at 10.30 am the heaviest snow I have seen since the cold snap of 2021 or even the Beast of 2018. So heavy in fact that we had nearly 2” and it stopped finally at 2PM! The temperature dropped to 0.5 degrees and it settled everywhere!  I couldn’t believe my eyes frankly - it was alpine !! There is a large snowman on my lawn now !! I cannot believe this happened - but it was truly brilliant. The temperature never got past 1 degree after the snow started. The snow is still on the ground now.

A nice cover of 4cm this morning, and sparkling in the glorious glazing sun! Last evening between 9 and 10pm we had proper blizzard conditions for over half an hour with the wind raging and snow swirling around.

Amazing in Oxfordshire last night driving north on the A34. Must have been at least 17 wet flakes mixed in with the torrential rain !

This is about as good as it gets !
