It's 4am and the minimum in Edinburgh so far is 19 C. Quite rare!

That's me off to the Airport 🙂

As I write, it's 11pm and yet the temperature here in Edinburgh is still at around 20°C which is ridiculously warm for so late at night in this part of the world (that is more like what I would expect to see in somewhere like Central London, and not here in Edinburgh), even at this time of the year.

As a result, I am absolutely roasting in this little flat in which I live.

Down here it's partly cloudy, calm (despite the models showing a breeze) and a pleasant enough 14.7, dew 12.9, following a low of 12.9. That at least was much lower than forecast, no complaints here!

The wind's arrived now and the temperature shot up in response - now a muggier 19.9, dew 15.7. On the radio (a London-based station) they were saying how unsettled it'll be today weather wise...

I suspect the bands of rain moving east will have fizzled by the time they get here.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank was 15.0°C.

Despite the fact that we were promised a change in the weather pattern from last night onwards, I can't say that anything has really changed in that regard up until now.

There was a little bit of overnight rain which has now cleared away and that is something which we haven't really seen for quite a long time. However, that ended up amounting to very little. The farmers are growers are desperate for some much needed rain but are still not really getting it and what we got last night is nowhere near enough to even help with that in any way. Furthermore, what's the betting that even today's forecast for showers comes to nothing here, resulting in us continuing to miss out on any much needed rainfall as a result.

There is a lot of cloud around for now, but that is only from the back end of last night's weather front with the skies further west being much clearer. As a result, it now looks as though we're going to just be seeing the same old sunshine today with the same old warm weather (albeit and thankfully, not as hot as yesterday). Because of that, I have no doubt now that the targets for both this month and this summer to be sunnier than average will be easily achieved today, thus showing us yet again that this is the year in which the Sun just won't stop shining.

Currently around 16°C here in Edinburgh

As at 11:30am BST (10:40 UTC) this morning, a total of 2.9 hours of sunshine had been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

This means that more sunshine has now been recorded this month than the 1991-2020 August average which means that regardless of what happens between now and the end of this month, this month will now go down as being sunnier than average here.

In addition to that, more sunshine has now been recorded this summer than the 1991-2020 summer average which means that regardless of what happens between now and the end of this month, this summer will now go down as being sunnier than average.

After a fairly sunny morning, more in the way of cloud has now built up but that no longer matters because those targets for a sunnier than average month and a sunnier than average summer have been met with not all that far short of a week to spare and this has shown once again, that this is the year in which the Sun just won't stop shining.

In addition to that, the temperature here in Edinburgh is once again up to around 21°C as I write so far now at least, this is showing that absolutely nothing has changed in terms of the current weather pattern.

Even though it is still quite sunny and 23 C as I type this at 12.30 pm, I can already feel that subtle change in the air with a freshening SW breeze flapping the net curtains in my famed west-facing hobby room. Does look like the cold front isn't too far away with increased cloud but still very little rain expected.

29.3C at Ross on Wye was the bank holiday max, so not quite another 30.

Will we see one in September?

There has been a bit more of a wind today and even the odd passing very light shower but apart from that, groundhog day goes on here in Edinburgh.

Today's maximum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank was 21.9°C with a total of 5.4 hours of sunshine being recorded for today so far as at 6:40pm BST (17:40 UTC).

Today was therefore not as hot or as sunny as it was yesterday but it still feels far too warm for me and as I write, the temperature here in Edinburgh is still at around 19°C

The drought ends…..

It’s gone very dark with thunder and lightning. Strong SSW winds and 2mm of rain in the last 5 mins ….that’s more in 5 minutes than we’ve had in 3 weeks. Current temperature 17.0c overnight low 14.5c.

18.1C cloudy, with clouds moving from the west. The cloud is mixed with some breaks; looking showery.

EDIT 0830 now raining heavily, probably the expected shower though MetO rainfall map hasn't caught up

17.2C. Bright but mainly cloudy with light SW winds. The radar looks more boistrous than yesterday, with the rain if it keeps its act together looking promising (for me).

The very active front has all but passed with blue sky spreading in from the west. Winds now light/mod veering wsw. Temperature now 14.1c. The front brought us 5mm of rain mostly in the first 10 minutes.

Still no signs of an end to the constant dry weather here.

It is a lot cooler now and last night's overnight minimum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank was 9.3°C.

Apart from that though, absolutely nothing is happening in terms of our actual weather, and the Sun is still continuing to shine as it usually always does these days (this is after all, the year in the Sun just won't stop shining) with only small amounts of cloud around.

Currently around 12°C here in Edinburgh as I continue to wait patiently for this much promised "change" in our weather which still hasn't yet arrived here, especially as the Met Office are once again forecasting it to warm up yet again to around 21°C with the cooler temperatures continuing to be put further back on those forecasts.

Lovely short but heavy downpour just passed through here. Developed just east of the IoW and intensified as it moved north east. Good soaking for the garden and will have topped up the dwindling water tanks a little

The front has gone through. A short moderate burst of rain but not enough to break the drought here. Ground still dry.

There's now a lot more cloud around, but the temperature is now up to around 20°C here in Edinburgh once again, where Groundhog Day goes on.

It's now become very dark here in Edinburgh for this time of the day and as I write, it has finally even started raining at long last which is something that I've not been able to say on here for a very long time.

Whether or not this actually amounts to much in terms of any actual rainfall totals is another matter and either way, that is not going to suddenly completely eradicate the water scarcity crisis in this area overnight but if we do get a reasonable total from that, this will at least help to relieve that situation a little bit.

As a result, the temperature for now remains stuck at around 20°C here in Edinburgh and it should cool down a bit from that in the next hour or so.

The rain has now cleared away here in Edinburgh with some sunny intervals coming through at times once again and in the end, the measly total of just 1.2 mm of rain was recorded from that at Edinburgh Gogarbank although that at least is better than nothing at all and at least it has given the gardens a little bit of a soaking.

As the rain came through, there was a fairly sharp drop in the temperatures, but the temperature here in Edinburgh is now back up to around 17°C.

A breezy day here with varying amounts of cloud. It's been dry throughout, and rather warm - a couple of degrees above average.

21.3, dew 15.6. Today's high was 23.9 and last night's low ended up as 13.9.
