Down here we do get affected with mizzle and drizzle which amount to very little. This unsettling spell so far has given us 2.4mm which is also the monthly total so far.

Finally had a shower of more than a handful of drops, it was actual rain and the first registered for the month as well.

Lots of showers showing on the MetO rainfall radar, so most people in southern counties will get one. But the heavy stuff is still quite local; I was south of Horsham this afternoon and it was dry and sunny after a light shower. Then, driving home at about 4pm, a biblical downpour near Arundel, traffic slowed to a crawl, hail and thunder (the official station at Wiggonholt might have caught this, must remember to look at the day's figures in due course). Then 10 miles further on, Chichester still quite dry.

UKV 15Z forecast rain rates tonight are varying a lot over short distances. Compare the forecast rain rates for the nearest gridpoint with the max rain rates which cast the net a bit further. So I could record between 2mm and 40mm here.

Edit: the outcome was approx 12mm of rain here.

2.5mm overnight to bring the monthly total so far to 10mm. It looks like late August here and my garden is covered with fallen leaves. Very little rain right out to the end of the models too.

Another small top up overnight, which has just finished, totaling 1.4mm.

3.8mm MTD now, looks like a week until we see anymore, if not longer.

Well I got a water butt filling 4.8mm overnight which was more than I was expecting. So in the 12 hrs to then I ended up with 6.3mm which penetrated about 1cm into the soil before it evaporates by the end of the day.

Amazingly the storms last night passed us either side with 40mm recorded less than 5 miles north and 20mm a similar distance to our south.

Stuck in the middle, we had a touch under 8mm recorded in 24hrs at the local amateur station here in E-Sussex. The rain this morning making the lions share of this (which was most welcome). I can't speak for its accuracy, but from a purely observational perspective i'd agree with the figures.

Slightly OT but contrary to comments i've read on other threads, its only sustained moderate rainfall that will benefit parched gardens.

A pretty significant 64mm in the last day and a half at the Kent Downs site. 26mm yesterday and the rest overnight. That's a lot.

This month's total at Edinburgh Gogarbank now at 30.2 mm (42.0% of 1991-2020 July average) with a total of 3.8 mm of rain falling in the 24 hour period up to 10am BST (09:00 UTC) this morning.

For that same station, the total for this summer is now at 111.4 mm (51.7% of 1991-2020 summer average) with the total for this year now at 298.6 mm (38.1% of 1991-2020 annual average)

This month has started off on a wet note here overall, but the coming days are looking likely to be much drier which means that it could be quite a while before we see any more rain and that is not going to be very good news at all as regards to the overall water scarcity situation in the east of Scotland

A very wet day here on Sunday.  11mm came from heavy morning rain, and then a shower streamer set up directly over us during much of the evening, producing some very heavy bursts of rain, and giving us another 23mm.  So 34mm in total on Sunday, bringing the July total here to 43mm, nearly as much as fell in the entire Spring this year.  Very welcome rain for the garden.
