Woke up this morning to see a very unexpected -5 on the station console. Looking at Weatherobs, I see there is an anomalous line of -5 and -6C in a line from Thetford to Reading. The coldest part of the country this morning. What conditions cause that I wonder?

1.6C, clear blue sky, just enough of an E/NE breeze to stave off frost

It was down to -1C earlier and under a F1 to 2 NE breeze technically a penetrating frost.
The sun's been up for sometime and it's clear sky but an uncomfortable NE breeze still and just above freezing.

Overnight low of -1.2c here and frost on most surfaces when I first got up. Now up to 3.2c and overcast and any evidence of frost long gone.

Good laundry drying weather with the brisk winds. The first time this year I've put up the rotary dryer in the garden.

Edit. Laundry dry a good hike around the lakes. Ground drying up (is this the start of a dry spell when I can have a moan about the lack of rain?) Perhaps this year after the last two damp summers.

After the walk in the brisk/chilly north easterlies under clear blue skies, a cup of tea with bagels in a sunny (warm with a coat spot)  in the garden.
I wish spring would hurry up but when we get to May and June, time always seems to speed up so much that it's soon late summer and so we begin the cycle again.

-4.9C here this morning, lowest I've seen just down the road at -6.1
Month average has dropped to 5.0C (-0.4) after being nearly 3C above in the mild spell earlier on.

Another hard frost in Edinburgh -4 C earlier but clear blue skies again. It's going to be a cracking day for my walk up Arthur's Seat. I doubt we will reach double figures though 🥶

Clear, calm and surprisingly frosty! -0.8, dew -2.2, with the overnight low so far being -1.0.

There should be an unusually large diurnal range today, with the MetO raw suggesting 16 this afternoon. Yesterday's high was a cool (for the time of year) 8.9.

Not quite so cool here (-0.2c) but that early twilight sky is blood red. Classic continental look.

Down to 2.2C earlier with a dry roof frost is there is such a thing. In other words a continental feel to the start of the day.
Patchy cloud but generally sunny and calm.

Another hard frost -4.8 C on my digital thermometers. At the airport it's -5 C
A brilliant walk up Arthur's Seat yesterday, Edinburgh looking so good in the strong sunshine. Felt freezing on the top though. A max of 9 C in the city
Off along to North Berwick this morning for a long beach walk. It'll be below 10 C with a drift off the North Sea at it's coldest
