Must have been one of the driest springs ever... yesterday's 3mm did absolutely nothing to ease the situation.

One washout June, please, to make up for things! 😁

Let's hope you get most of the rain in June.

I'll be interested in the Met Office anomaly maps for May because despite no rain falling at all in the first two-thirds of the month, I bet we end up not that much below average in terms of total rainfall.

The UK has had its sunniest spring since records began in 1910, according to provisional figures from the Met Office.

The UK recorded 630 hours of sunshine between 1 March and 27 May - beating its previous sunniest spring in 2020 by four hours, the forecaster said.

Yet another stinking repulsive write-off weekend day to end this horrific crapfest spring. Yet again stagnant easterly muck stuck over us producing constant cloud, rain and drizzle. An endless feed of poison. Nowhere else on earth experiences this crap weekend after weekend.

Can't wait to get away from this utter hellhole in two weeks time for a trip to Italy in which I'll be able to experience sunshine for the first time in three months.

Five vile days this month and, apart from yesterday, all have been at the weekend. It's beyond belief and is being engineered by Satan there is just no rational explanation.

Well over half of the rainfall this spring has fallen at the weekends with the two wettest days being Saturdays (22nd March and 24th May). Only two Springs in 20 years (2006 and 2017) have had wetter Saturdays.

The coldest day of April was a Saturday (5th) and the coldest day of May was a Sunday (4th). The dullest day of May so far was a Sunday (18th) but that could change to today looking out at yet another day of rancid, cold, grey easterly filth.

Basically all we've had all Spring is crap weekends while it's been glorious during the week, particularly Tuesday to Friday. It's been detestable and a season that looking back on will invoke few good memories. There is nothing pleasurable about being stuck indoors all week looking out at blue skies to end up stuck indoors at the weekend looking out at soul destroying grey filth.

I'll post the final figures tomorrow but it is already the worst Weekend Curse season I have recorded in 20 years regarding rainfall. For sunshine it looks like coming in the top 5 worst alongside horror shows like Spring 2023 and Summer 2007.

If it wasn't for the crap weekends May would have been the first month ever to reach 300 hours sunshine. Infuriating and depressing in equal measure. The rest of the year will end likely end up a dull, wet washout like 2020 bar September. It's already beyond the pale with today the 9th consecutive day of rain and nearly the whole monthly average recorded in that time. Only recorded a stretch as bad as this once in 20 years in May and that was just three years ago in 2022. Dreadful Springs so far this decade.

The Spring of Discontent continues I see in Aberdeen. No doubt to morph into the Summer of Hell in due course.

Otherwise I hope your Italian holiday goes well and the sun shines from dawn to dusk under traditional Mediterranean blue skies. With no Saharan dust of course.

Conclusion

Overnight minimum temperatures in the spring were around average though with a below average number of air frosts, but daytime maximum temperatures were well above average which meant that the spring was warmer than average overall.

The spring of 2025 was also quite a lot drier than average both in terms of the actual rainfall amounts and in terms of the number of official rain days, with all three spring months being drier than average by both of those definitions.

The spring of 2025 was also substantially sunnier than average with all three spring months being sunnier than average. Indeed, it was even officially confirmed as Scotland's sunniest spring on record by the UK Met Office.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

Let's hope you get most of the rain in June.

I'll be interested in the Met Office anomaly maps for May because despite no rain falling at all in the first two-thirds of the month, I bet we end up not that much below average in terms of total rainfall.

And yet, when it comes to the actual rainfall amount anomaly, NW England as a whole was about average - with a few parts getting 125-150% of average.

It shows just how much rain fell in the last 7/8 days of the month!
