As we have now just entered into the final month of the meteorological winter, it is now time for a new thread for this month's rainfall reports.

In many places, this winter overall has been rather wet and that has been the case in January as well but as per usual for here in Edinburgh, that has not been the case here where rainfall totals continue to be slightly below average.

I know that I previously reported that it was wetter than average here in Edinburgh but it turns out that this was not actually the case and that it was a bug in my python script at the time (which has now been fixed) which led to December being reported as a wetter than average month here.

In fact, the rainfall total at Edinburgh Gogarbank in December was only 74.2 mm which was only 99.1 % of the 1990-2020 December average.

Previous to that, November was even drier with only 27.4 mm of rain at Edinburgh Gogarbank. It turns out in fact that we actually have to go all the way back to September 2024 to find our last wetter than average month here and even that was only with a total of 60.1 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank so that wetter than average month only actually came about as a result of the 1990-2020 September average being very low compared to most other months and even that was only our first wetter than average month since May 2024.

Taking that in conjunction with many others have been reporting on these threads in recent months, it is clear that it just doesn't rain here in Edinburgh any more to the extent that it does elsewhere and that has to be down to the fact that we just don't get changeable weather any more like we used to.

I don't really see that changing any time soon, and I don't see any signs of that changing in the latest model output. Nevertheless, this is the very place to post all of those important rainfall totals for this month, especially those who do actually still get plentiful amounts of rain unlike here in Edinburgh.

65.2mm so far this month, maybe a little more but horizontal rain finds it hard to get into the gauge.🙄
