9.9C SW-ly gales in the early hours but nothing exceptional for the time of year. Now backed W-ly and overnight rain almost stopped.

A horrible start to today here in Edinburgh with driving rain and winds gusting to over 60 mph from the south at Edinburgh Gogarbank with worse yet still to come, especially as the wind swings more round to towards the west.

The temperatures actually peaked around around an hour or so ago at around 9°C but have now dropped back a bit to around 6°C here in Edinburgh.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

It's been blowing a hoolie since 5am here, as far as I know, it probably started before then but that was my first bout of consciousness and could hear the wind clearly, thrumming over the chimney top. Not sure it's rained here at all as it's been bright and mostly cloud free since I got up. Just standard strong winds for my area so far, thankfully, nothing I've not experienced before since being here in the last few months, when we've had wind storms.10.5c 58%RH.

Calmer than I had expected this morning. Average windspeed (other local station) 15 mph with gusts up to 32 mph. A squall went through at around 9 am but nothing much and wind no more than 30 mph but a bit of a downpour and only slight temp dip. Now up to 10.3C and quite sunny for a change. Told my daughter to get to Stansted early for her flight - bet she was pleased - it left on time and what was supposed to be the peak at 60mph at 6.00 am!

Low winter sun glinting weakly though extensive high cloud, 9.7 C (peaked at 10.2 C an hour ago, think that is the first time I've seen double digit temps this month). Just a gentle west breeze, it seems surreal that the other end of our country is experiencing pretty much the equivalence of our Oct '87 storm. Just shows the compact nature of Eowyn.

After yesterday's drama, we now have a light covering of snow which has frozen on the pavements and cars! Add to that a light rain shower and it looks a bit icy out there

I'm driving to Nottingham, still no early trains down to England 🙄

We care currently under a yellow warning for snow and ice here in Edinburgh but that expires in only three hours' time at 11am GMT (11:00 UTC) this morning.

This morning has started off with fairly skies though but there are still some showers around and everything is looking rather wet here.

On a more positive note, the wind has died down quite a lot since yesterday although it's still rather breezy and we're still under a yellow warning for wind right up until 3pm GMT (15:00 UTC) this afternoon.

In the end though, there was still too much wind around during the night to allow us to get even as much as a ground frost which for the absolute heart of winter is absolutely pathetic!!😡

Currently around 3°C here in Edinburgh which isn't even all that cold for this time of the year.😡

Quite sunny with varied high cloud, but rather damp after rain fell in the early hours (how could just 1.0 mm make everything so soggy?). A chilly feeling 7.0 C & mid 70% H but winds are calm for now. Shame it's set to turn crap again tomorrow onwards.

At last a really nice sunny day. Virtually no wind, blue skies and up to 8C. Amazing how bad it was for the north and Ireland yesterday and today we have our best day since the end of October. Back to normal I fear tomorrow.

Been very nice and strong sunshine today from slight air frost this morning to average Jan temps of 6C.  All this thanks to the 1003 LP giving us sunshine and not seen the azure blue skies since the recent cold spell which was under LP set up.  2.3C and 22.7C in the conservatory so t-shirt for couple of hours indoors now back to wearing jumpers and heating come on as temps taking a dive.
