One of the infrequent occasions where west is best. Here it's been hazy sunshine and light breeze all day. A little cool at 16c but otherwise pleasant.

A wet morning (2.4mm rain). It's now dry, breezy, cloudy, humid and cool. 14.7, dew 13.6 with a high so far of 15.2 (3C below normal, which is noteworthy - just think how often it's 3C above!)

Last night's low was 11.7.

Incredible - for the first time since the 18th January, it looks like we'll end up with a 3C below average maximum (91-20) here today (15.3).

For comparison, the last time we had a 3C above average maximum was, erm, two days ago! (It was actually over 4C above the average).

Scary, IMO, especially how used to it all people are these days!

Generally, a nice day here and the main thing is that it's dry which is something which it generally hasn't been here for quite a while.

Indeed, today's highest temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank until now is 19.1°C. With that, there's even the small chance that we could even sneak in a 20+°C maximum temperature with that all important maximum temperatures comes through with the 18z and 21z raw BUFR data.

That is probably unlikely, but you just never know.

However, it's now clouded over yet again and with a total of just 6.9 hours of sunshine being recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank, our increasingly long wait for that elusive first day of the year with 12 or more hours of sunshine in this part of the world goes on.

Currently around 18°C here in Edinburgh.

EDIT:

Today's maximum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank has been confirmed as 19.1°C so the official maximum temperature has ended up being exactly the same as the highest hourly reading which can only happen if the actual maximum temperature occurs exactly bang on a certain hour.

This means that we're not even getting to end the spring with a 20+°C maximum temperature.

White rabbits and welcome to the summer of 2024.

Last night was mostly overcast but that cloud then broke up during the early hours of this morning and this summer is now starting off on a fairly bright note with some decent sunny spells and only a bit of high cloud left behind.

Currently around 12°C here in Edinburgh.

Here in Edinburgh, it's still sunny and the temperature is now up to around 21°C, so we already have our first 20+°C maximum and our first 70+°F maximum of this summer in the bag and today is still on course to possibly be our sunniest day of the year so far as well, and possibly even our first day of this year with 12 or more hours of sunshine.

I see Edinburgh had a completely sunny day and was the warmest UK location at 22 C for the first day of summer...........and I wasn't there 😂

I'm in the Western Dales at Ingleton walking the Peaks. 17 C yesterday, 18 C today and lots of sunshine so I'm not complaining!

In addition to that, a total of 12.8 hours of sunshine has now been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank and the Sun is still shining.

That makes today our sunniest day of this year so far by quite a considerable amount and finally, we have also just had our first day of this year with 12 or more hours of sunshine at long last!!

All in all, a perfect start to this summer and a massive change from what we've been experiencing recently.
