The weather is still in a settling down phase with higher pressure close to the UK so the coming week won't be as unsettled as recent weeks and months but there will still be showery conditions at times. With winds from a northerly or northeasterly direction, watch out for generally rather cool and subdued temperatures with a continued risk of ground frost and maybe even some air frost at times...

Saturday morning has been mostly dry but we have seen a few light showers across northern Scotland and down eastern coasts. This afternoon will keep mostly dry weather going with just a few light showers around coastal fringes. It will be cool afternoon in the east but milder in the west with temperatures of 8C to 14C east to west.

Overnight, some rain and drizzle pushes southwards across northern and eastern Scotland but dies out as it does so. The rest of the country remains dry with clear spells and variable cloud. It will be another cold night with temperatures of -1C to +6C though it shouldn't be quite as cold as last night.

Sunday will bring more rain to southern and eastern Scotland as well as north east England. Eastern counties will generally have more cloud than today but should stay dry. The of the sunny spells will probably be in the west and in the south east corner. Temperatures range from 7C to 13C.

High pressure will be sitting to the west of the country on Monday with winds from the north a weather front will "pep up" across Wales, the Midlands and northern England with rain turning persistent and occasionally heavy. Scotland and northern Ireland should stay mostly dry and the south east corner should be mainly dry, too. Temperatures will be unusually cold under the persistent rain just 4C to 7C but elsewhere, temperatures should reach 10C to 15C.

Much of the rain will die out on Monday night but Tuesday could bring wet weather into eastern England with a few heavy showers in the south east corner. Most places will stay dry with the best of the sunny spells in the north west. Temperatures remain subdued at 6C to 13C.

Winds remain from the north east on Wednesday so scattered showers are likely for eastern regions but many places will have another dry day with bright or sunny spells and variable cloud. Temperatures will be below average again at 6C to 12C and there will be on-going risks of night frost early and late.

Thursday doesn't bring any real change. We should have another fairly dry day with bright or sunny spells. Watch out for scattered showers in central and eastern regions with temperatures once again on the cool side at 7C to 13C.

Towards Friday and next weekend we may start to see low pressure heading in from the Atlantic with an increasing risk of rain. Temperatures start off very cool but start to recover by the weekend.

Summary: Cool or very cool. Quite a lot of dry weather but some showers at times, especially in the north and east. Wet and potentially very cold in places on Monday.

APRIL SHOWERS are OK. But not the downpours.

Some people walk in the rain.
Others just get wet.
