I'm staying just south of Nottingham and as the front went through earlier we had a few rumbles of thunder. Brightening up now.

Travelling back north to Edinburgh on the train soon, should be some good showery skyscapes!

Here in Edinburgh, today has started off on a bright and sunny but fairly chilly note after the clearance of overnight rain.

As at 8:10 am BST (07:10 UTC) this morning, the temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank was 5.4°C.

Horrible day of sunshine and heavy showers

Has some hail and sleet as temp fell to 3.5c.

Going to be very windy later, 50mph NW winds, not pleasant.

Very lively cold front just passed through with heavy rain, squally winds and a bit of hail. Cloud already breaking and blue sky peeping through.

Thankfully the hills a couple of miles to the west weakened it, though... at the yacht club a few miles further to the west they recorded a gust of 66mph! It seemed to coincide with a "kink" in the front, and was accompanied by >96mm/hour rainfall rates, according to the radar. The peak here was 35mm/hour. Here's the windspeed graph from the yacht club at Sheerness:

An *interesting* drive to work this morning, with torrential hail & rain showers and very blustery winds.

The car's ice warning flicked on as one really heavy burst dragged down air cold enough to knock the temp down to 3c.

Indeed, it went all squally-like at around 11.15 am at my end, it was brief with no hail and only gave me 1.6 mm in passing but was lively in itself anyway. Now calming down with some blue skies appearing but feeling cold once again at 8.8 C at 12 pm.

A Tornado/Squall hit parts of Nottingham this morning causing damage in West Bridgford where I was! It went really dark and I heard two claps of thunder.

I'm at Newcastle now in beautiful sunshine! Heading north to Edinburgh, there are beautiful anvil clouds over the Pennines to the west

There's a bit more cloud around now but there's still plenty of blue sky with some decent sunshine at times.

However, there is also a cold wind. As a result, the temperatures are now refusing to rise and remain stuck at just 7.8°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12:40pm BST (11:40 UTC) this afternoon which isn't even the least bit warm for this time of the year.😡

Calm and clear here this morning - a big contrast to yesterday!

Yesterday morning, the squall passed through here at 9:20am and left fallen branches and broken fence panels in its wake. My stations wind speed graph looks very similar to the one for Sheerness Yacht Club above although I only recorded 55mph.

Another beautiful day in Edinburgh. Lot's of blue sky and strong sunlight. Still a wee bit chilly in the shade but I've been out in the garden for a few hours. 13 C Max ☀️
