We seem to finally be coming out of the deluge! High pressure will have more in an influence in the next week but that's not to say it will be completely dry as weather systems and areas of low pressure will bring showers or rain at times. We will have have some quite chilly temperatures, most notably so at night with late season frost is possible though daytimes won't be too bad with the strong April sunshine.

Saturday morning has been wet for much of Scotland and Northern Ireland with heavy rain in places. Northern England and north Wales have had light rain and drizzle while the rest of the England and Wales have been dry with the best of the sunny spells in the south and east.

This afternoon will see the wet weather moving southwards but fizzling out as it does so though skies will turn cloudier across the south and east. Scotland and Northern Ireland will brighten up but some showers are likely across Scotland where they may turn wintry over northern hills. Temperatures will be warm in the south east but colder for northern and western Scotland. Our temperature range will be 6C to 20C today!

Overnight, the band of cloud with occasional light rain and drizzle moves away to the south with clearer skies following. Showers continue for northern and western Scotland but most places will be dry tonight. Temperatures range from -1C to 8C so a much cooler/colder night than recently, with patchy frost for Scotland.

Sunday starts dry and chilly. England and Wales should stay dry with bright or sunny spells but showers will spread into north Wales later. Meanwhile Scotland and Northern Ireland will turn wet with heavy, showery rain spreading southeastwards. Temperatures close to average for mid April at 7C to 14C.

Low pressure sinks in from the Atlantic overnight Sunday to Monday. We'll see bands of heavy, showery rain spread southeastwards on Sunday night so many places start Monday on a wet note. The more persistent rain will clear away on Monday itself but we'll have a mix of sunny spells and showers with a cold northwesterly wind. Temperatures just 5C to 12C which is below average for the time of year!

Low pressure clears away to the east for Tuesday leaving us with northerly winds. We'll have a day of sunny spells and showers with some heavy showers in the north and around coasts but many southern and inland regions should stay dry with sunny spells. Temperatures close to average at 7C to 14C.

Wednesday could see a weak weather system moving in from the Atlantic bringing more cloud and patchy rain to the north and west but many places probably stay dry. Temperatures will be below average at 6C to 12C and Wednesday night could bring a rather damaging late season frost to many places, as skies clear.

Thursday will find high pressure sitting to the west of the country bringing a lot of dry weather but also a fair amount of cloud. The best of any sunny spells will be in the south and east. Temperatures 6C to 13C.

It's a similar picture for Friday though we might have more in the way of sunny spells so temperatures pick up a little bit to around 7C to 15C. Watch out for cold night with on-going risk of ground frost.

Next weekend could see pressure falling so showers or longer spells of rain could develop. As winds turn into the north, temperatures might become colder again, too.

Summary: A lot of dry weather this week but some rain at times, especially early in the forecast period. Temperatures average to rather cool after a warm start.

Thanks Gavin P.  To all intents and purposes not a good week. Vegetation is very advanced after several weeks frost free. A frost now will be quite destructive.    😞
