Into what is supposed to be the best month of the year, but never is anymore, and still the same rancid easterly grot, that would drive a benedictine monk to swear and smash up the monastery in a fit of rage, persists 🤬

Stupidly cold, stupidly wet, stupidly sunless. Not forgetting revolting murk like nothing on earth we used to get. It's just relentless garbage in this horror spring that makes the wettest winter in 140 years seem pleasant by comparison. Even yesterdays 13C and sunshine which should have felt decent didn't due to the revolting nasty chilly wind. It was autumnal and you now get better weather on average on 1st November than what we now see repeatedly on 1st May. 3.6 hours daily sun average over the past decade for 1st Nov compared to 3.2 hours for 1st May 🤢

More hours of rain already than any other spring I've recorded in it's entirety and still the write-off rubbish persists. 18 completely sunless days to make a total of 37 across the past two putrid springs. The record for consecutive springs, going back to the 1940s, is 39 for 1983/84 so well on course to break that vile record. Furthermore the hideous conditions then were concentrated in spring 1983 and March 1984 with both April and May 1984 being good months. We haven't had a single good spring month since March 2022. Each one of the rotten 7 spring months since then has had below average sunshine, with increasingly ridiculous amounts of rain 🤬

You'd be hard pressed to find successive springs as consistently awful as this. Given the putrid start who would bet against yet another crap May being the 9th consecutive wetter than average month, the 8th consecutive duller than average spring month and the 8th duller than average May in 11 years. A spectacularly awful run of wrist-slittingly grim and depressing misery that just seems never ending.

You'd have to have been Adolf Hitler in a past life to deserve the misery inflicted by these inhuman and misanthropic conditions that no-one in their right mind could tolerate. I see high pressure being modelled for the UK next week but I am off to Sweden and the weather there looks beyond horrific. Cloud, rain and temperatures struggling to hit double figures. How the hell can that be possible in a climate that averages 9 hours sun per day? Just a sick joke. Has to be up there with the worst ever springs for Scandanavia as well as the UK 🤮🤮

If it's any consolation Richard it's been absolutely horrific in the Massif Central in Central France. Well over 1.5 metres of rain since mid October last year. Hardly any sunny days. Cool grey and/or downright chilly most of the time apart from a couple of warmish days here and there. worst winter and spring since we moved to France in 2014. I think it has been shite across most of Europe. Keep your pecker up!!

Severe pollution clouds and thought the storms over the south meant to clear up the skies like other countries does but seem to made it worse.   Conservatory doing a good job to keep the indoors rightly warm and comfortable whiel outside chilly with gale force easterly winds. .

I wish there was a pan UK & Europe rainfall radar images - you can see how storms progress from France or Netherlands, and not found a good one of these yet. METO only shows the UK. Don't know why nationalism has to get in the way of science.

Netweather used to offer one, but the button's been removed when I checked just now - I guess it cost too much for the amount of use it got.

This one has good coverage of Benelux, I use it mainly in winter if we pick up an easterly... Click the zoom out icon and it shows much of Europe.

And yet the Meto forecast for here tomorrow says dry with plenty of sunny spells

Sunday and Monday don’t look amazing, but after that it improves with temps around 70f, and I’m off work next week

This dire Spring continues here. After another 100% sunless day yesterday, today it is 9.9C and raining at 11.30am. Not showery but dreary overcast rubbish, The blue tit  is trying to incubate 10 eggs which will soon hatch. I hope the cold and rain hasn't got rid of all of the caterpillars else they will be in trouble again as they were last year.

Here we are at the weekend yet again enduring more evil sickening filth. Dire does not even begin to decribe how bad this spring is. It's just off the scale of horrors devoid of anything even remotely decent or acceptable.

Yet another weekend I can't even be bothered to get out of bed. The most demoralsing, unhealthy, soul destroying, zero quality of life hellhole on the planet 🤮

9C, damp, murky sunless. How can this utter crap be expected to be tolerated weekend after weekend? Can't even remember the last time I woke to sunshine on a weekend. Similarly can't recall the last time the May Holiday weekend, which often used to deliver fine weather, was anything other than a complete write-off. First weekend of November now produces better weather on average.

There were only 22 completely sunless spring weekend days between 2007 and 2018. Since 2019 there has been 24 with 12 so far in 2023 and 2024, the most revolting pair of springs within living memory. For May alone there were only eight sunless weekend days between 2007 and 2022. Last year had a breathtakingly awful four and today looks like being another one to get 2024 off to the worst possible start 🤬

This year is just so bad that it's pretty much beyond salvation already. What could we get that could possible make up for this garbage on top of all the rest of the near unremitting poison endured in recent years? All it does is keep getting worse and worse.

The best season of the year now reduced to the worst. I'm struggling to recall any season as bad as this. It's just one kick in the teeth after another. I keep thinking I must wake up and find the past 20 months have been a dream but even the worst nightmares aren't this scary. A staggeringly horrific run of miserable wet, weekend curse laden horror that just won't relent.

To make matters worse today it's going to be 23C and sunny in Stockholm whereas when I go there I have more nuclear winter conditions to look forward to 🤢 Forecast to be in single digits on Wednesday with cloud and drizzle and barely any better for the whole of the week I am there with not a single day looking to reach average and hardly any sun despite the daily average being 9 hours. Yet again I ask myself what I've done to deserve this relentless crap. No escaping from the Faeroe Islands dross 🤬🤬🤬🤬

Look like the prediction for very poor BH weekend weather had been downgraded for a change this time that give many of us better today and warmer after yesterday cold wet day.

Very poor does not begin to describe how awful this holiday weekend is. The work of a sadist 🤬🤬🤬

Another completely sunless day yesterday and still the hell continues today with what is looking to be the incredulous third sunless Sunday in a row. Yet again it's just off the scale. Only roughly 1 in 15 chance of a sunless day at this time of year so the probability of three sunless Sundays in a row is so infinitesimally small it just shouldn't be happening 🤢

1993 would have been the worst spring I could remember until now. This year and last year have made that grim spring look appealing by comparison. Even May 2021 which seemed about as bad a May as it was possible to get looks good compared to May 2023 and May 2024.

It's just astounding the relentless crap weather and unspeakably depressing blanket of cloud that just sits there day after day. There has now been 38 sunless days across the two springs and just one more needed to equal the record set in 1983/84 which looks like it could be achieved today.

I have checked the diabolical 1920s and 1930s springs and even they did not have a putrid pairing with more sunless days. 1936/37 appears to be the worst with the same total as 1983/84 which almost certainly will be smashed by 2023/24.

In my records going back to 2007 the most sunless days in the first half of a year was 33 in 2010. That had already been beaten by the end of April this year with 34. May has now had two so that's 36 - just one less than the total for the whole of 2020 🤬

Even the grimmest of Novembers offer more than this utterly vile spring. The blizzards of April 1975 were also leagues above anything this putrid season has produced. At least that would have been an interesting and memorable weather event to live through in complete contrast to the horrifyingly dull, uninteresting and unpleasant grot we are forced to endure constantly nowadays that holds no appeal whatsoever from any conceivable viewpoint 🤮

Only speaking from the perspective of my own location but those stats you quote are pretty good in comparison to here this Spring. Very dull and oddly humid season here so far with sunshine being a relatively rare spectacle. Not the biggest fan of sunshine myself, but I sort of need a spell of it now to help dry out the garden and get the knee high grass cut.

It's not to bad today though with more broken skies allowing some sunshine in at times.

Yes, a much better BH weekend than expected and a lovely week to come, by the looks of things. With a bit of luck, this spell may have finally marked a change from the incessant rain and wind we've had for the last nine months. Just in time for the extended summer season too!

Click on the link to see another Edinburgh Spring day. It really is the worst I have known. May is turning out just like the horrible March and April.

It's the lack of sunlight that is so depressing at what can be a lovely time of year. We still have the heating on and even our lamps on in the late afternoon gloom.

The garden is a bedraggled colourless mess. A lot of the bulbs and perennials that would normally have flowered by now, haven't appeared and I'm not sure they will.

I keep hoping at the start of each week things will improve but today it is gloomy and wet and expected to be 13 C. Tomorrow cloudy and damp 12 C 🤢
