Just looking at the Cairngorm web cams and I'm a tad surprised at how high the snow level is. Basically, it looks as though there isn't much below Ptarmigan (800m) at the moment.

But yet this morning there was a blanket of snow approx 150masl in Perthshire and Fife. It’s been a very frustrating ski season, again!

so much media scaremongering  ‘UK to be blanketed in snow in days’
Far too mild for that. Im in a favoured spot and hasn't been beneath 4dc in weeks.
Same with recent BBC graphics with swathes of white as if major snow event.
Total nonsense.

Was surprised to see that it was snowing a bit here first thing this morning. Nothing settling but snow falling. Aside from tonight where they may be more wintriness the next potentially wintry point seems to be around the start of April. I’d rather have the warmth of late March 2012, albeit not the summer that followed!

We need to potentially talk about a snow event on wednesday night into thursday morning affecting a narrow slice of the country from devon up through wales. Localized potentially very heavy snow. Could drop alot in a very short time while the rest of the UK is wondering what the fuss is about.

Very sleety/wet snow on my way to work from Poole to Dorchester today around 8am. Car thermometer read 3.5deg most of the way. Max elevation is only around 250ft. A very wet and cold day in store. Very bleak/dreich

I noticed that and thought really? But it was. I had a flat tyre too, so didn't set off. Waiting for a mobile fitter as I type this. And they seem very busy today too, which is the law of Sod. Add in a blocked nose. It really is one of those days for me.

But just along the coast, lots of sunshine after the rain cleared at lunchtime. 13C but felt warmer in the sun.

From my usual vantage point here in NW Edinburgh, I have a really good view of the Pentland Hills in the distance from my south facing kitchen window.

From what I can see, those hills which are closest to where I am are still completely green but just behind that, there was still just a hint of white on a couple of the summits as of around 5pm GMT (17:00 UTC) this afternoon.

Metoffice not going for a warning tonight for Devon/Wales. The UKV shows snow only on higher ground but the other high res models show snow widely to lower levels (albeit in that narrow band)

Which suggests to me there's a chance of wet snow not settling.

We dont issue warnings every time it snows, only when it is likely to cause disruption.  Although I appreciate that now it's become so uncommon in many parts, any snow might be deemed disruptive because we are just not used to it.
