New thread for this storm which is hitting Scotland hard

Highlands & Islands weather has reported a gust of 101mph at Invergordon and well over 80mph at several sites

Here in the Central Belt enormous gusts are blowing through 50-60mph. It's getting quite scary to hear the house creaking!

Think we dodged the bullet on this one, but Faroe Isles apparently being absolutely battered. I would not want to be living in coastal Norway this evening.

I honestly think it's been underdone. Especially reading the comments on Highlands & Islands Weather.

Rain lashing against the house now, I'm not looking forward to the cold front squall 😱

You're certainly right Jerry. Glad I'm not further north. Waves crashing over the top of 100 foot cliffs in Shetland

A lovely day of high winds and chilling rain, secured the kids trampoline with a couple of sandbags

Some workmen are picking up a fence that has blown onto the pavement at the MOD housing nearby. They look thrilled from their body language.

The front coming through but no squall as yet thank goodness. It's been such a rough day and only 8 C Max again. Think we've peaked at 57mph locally! I've had enough of these rough days

Looking forward to something milder and more gentle on my trip to Nottingham on Friday!

That might not seem like much, but it has to be borne out that this storm was quite a long way away to our north (hence the reason why it was the Norwegians who officially named it) so to be getting those sorts of winds under those cirumstances is rather impressive in my books.
The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

A Norwegian oil platform off the central coast of Norway measured a significant wave height of 15.0m at 2300 last night. This measure is an average of the highest one third of all waves, and individual waves of 25m or more were quite likely encountered during the storm.
