A chilly start to today here in Edinburgh with an official air frost at Edinburgh Airport and Edinburgh Gogarbank, but only a ground frost at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

However, today has also got off to a bright and sunny start once again after the clearance of a layer of fog which was so shallow that I was actually above it in the bock of flats where I live, and was able to look down on that with clear skies mostly throughout.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature was -0.2°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, +0.4°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh and around -1°C at Edinburgh Airport.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 9am GMT (09:00 UTC) this morning was around 0°C here in Edinburgh.

An unpleasant day with light persistent rain and a chilly 5C. Almost feels like it could produce sleet.

Turning out fair with some sunny periods and partial cloud, the 10 C felt pleasantly mild in calm air when I popped out to get the papers.

Bitter here today.  Grey and a biting wind.

3*c when I went for a walk at lunch, slightly warmer now at 4*c.

Sign of things to come?

3.3c here , cloudy and misty. Visibility is better than the last few days but that isn't saying much.   Can see about a mile.  Very depressing period of weather.

Cold, dank and dreary. A classic case of winter anticyclonic gloom:

It's the last night of the meteorological autumn in the Northern Hemisphere. Tomorrow is the first day of the meteorological Northern Hemisphere winter and after two fairly frosty nights, guess what? Yes, you've guessed it because now, the temperatures are refusing to drop as it has now clouded over from the west.😡

The earlier part of the day was bright enough, but only with a total of 1.1 hours of sunshine in the end at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

Believe or not, that has resulted in this month's final total being exactly bang on the 1991-2020 November average number of hours of sunshine at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

Tomorrow morning's 06z raw SYNOP data might confirm the actual final total to be slightly above or below that but either way, this has ended up being an average month in terms of sunshine.

However, today's total has also confirmed that this autumn will go down as being duller than average overall in this part of the world.

Meanwhile back on topic, today's unofficial daytime maximum temperature (unofficial because it is always the 24 hour daily maximum temperatures which are recorded and reported by the Met Office, rather than the 12 hour daytime maximum temperatures) were 6.2°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 5.7°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

The temperature here in Edinburgh as at 9pm GMT (21:00 UTC) was around 3°C, but that is no lower than what it was around 5pm GMT this afternoon, which was more than 4 hours ago.😡
