There is a a shower approaching Cambridge.

What is the latest time we could hit the record?

As it stands I'd give the win to Tractor boy on the basis he also added a location (northolt) and that location was closer (and less vauge) than the others.

Leeds on the up again

Thibk we could go a little higher if we get more clear spells but I think 34.8 will probably be the max. This is the hottest day I have ever felt in Leeds.

40.5C in Diepenbeek at 5pm local time, looks like a new Belgian record. May have gone higher in the meantime.

Latest update from the MetOffice operations team on their Live Broadcast confirms that while a small chance we could still achieve the record, feeling is they are now levelling out or dropping

Cloud moved in (Cambridge) and spoiled any chance at the all time record, what a day either way.

I remember Gravesend was 38.1 at the end of the day in 2003 and Faversham pipped it the next day. Could happen again.

My weather station has recorded 39.9C at 16:20 but I actually trust that less than the garden thermometer in my last post.

I think it was actually several weeks later, wasn't it? End of August, at least.

Well, a pretty good performance from the hi-res models I would say, with the location and the value pretty much spot on.

In the last hour, the temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank has dropped back below 30°C, so my earlier reported value of 30.9°C looks like being today's maximum for that particular station.

Other notable values for here in Edinburgh according to the Met Office Observations site are 30.6°C at Swanston Weather station and 30.6°C at Colinton. As for Scotland as a whole, the highest temperature which I have found at any of the major weather stations is 33.3°C in Bathgate in West Lothian.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

The only thing we need to be cautious about is that we're currently only seeing the real-time network. There are climate sites which only report max's at 1800 GMT or a climate report at 2100 GMT. So there might be a surprise yet.....

You can’t rule out a late runner but it’s getting late Stanstead (actually Takley) to Writtle in our area
