It was clear to start off with at sunset, but it has now clouded over yet again and that has also prevented the temperature from dropping any further over the last few hours.

In the end, a total of 1.2 mm of rain fell during yesterday at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 1.4 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh with some of that falling as hailstones, sleet and wet snow.

Meanwhile, the temperature at midnight was 4.7°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 4°C at Edinburgh Airport and 4.6°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

It's supposed to be spring just now, but there is nothing very springlike about our weather just now as it is snowing quite heavily here in Edinburgh as I write. That started off as heavy rain but there was then quite a large drop in the temperature as that moved in which along with some evaporative cooling then caused that rain to turn to snow which is now giving us a slight covering (where on Earth was this sort of weather during the winter when we were looking for it?).

The good news though, is that it's nowhere near as windy as what it has been.

However, all of this precipitation has resulted in a total of 5.2 mm of rain being recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8am this morning along with 6.2 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. This means that today will now go down as yet another official rain day at both of those stations.

As I write, the temperature is still dropping and so, the temperature at 8am this morning was 0.5°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 1°C at Edinburgh Airport and 1.0°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Since they began the flood works the river has not been this high. There's talk that they might have to sound the siren upriver at Walsden?

Rain ,rain ,go away.......

The snow from earlier on this morning has turned back to rain here, but it remains very wet and miserable in this part of the world with nothing in the way of sunshine being recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon.

This has increased today's rainfall total so far as at 12 noon to 11.2 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 11.8 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which already makes today the second wettest day of this year so far at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

In addition to that, it is also very cold for this time of the year just now.

This morning's minimum temperature was 0.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 0°C at Edinburgh Airport and 0.6°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 12 noon was 1.8°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 2°C at Edinburgh Airport and 2.0°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Fine time for the govt. flood warning system to go on the blink!

River at 3.20 and we're toast if it hit 3.82 or beyond?

Looks like there's still plenty to come and now the runoff from earlier is adding into the swell. highest the water's been since Oct 17th 2017.....squeaky bum time!

At 8am this morning in North Northumberland we had moderate snow at 0.2C and dewpoint well below zero. I estimate the snow largely fell between 7 and 9 giving about a 3cm cover. Turned to rain around 10am and petered out around midday when wind got up considerably and backed westerly. Rapid thaw of lying snow as temp soared to 10C this afternoon.

I bet your snowfall event was more memorable than any throughout the whole of winter 18/19 - including when you had that snowfall end of January where it snowed between 8 and 10pm but melted by 11pm?? remember that night and temperature hovered around 0.5c and after the snow shower which gave a dusting passed temp rose to 1c and snow melted?

Another wet and windy day here in Exeter and this is only the start!

Well the sirens have gone from Hebden Bridge, the railway from M/cr to Leeds is flooded so closed at Eastwood and we are 'projected' ( had my automated warning already) to see flooding around 5:15pm.

And the atmospheric river flows on! We need the low centre out in the N.Sea so the N'ly's can push this lot down south!

Cloudy with occasional drizzle, but with 0.6 mm so far it's actually drying up faster in the wind than it had drizzled.   There is even a twinge of brightness trying to break through.

10.7 c & 82% h with a brisk SW breeze but I seem to be sheltered from the wind by the built up hilly bit to my south west.

Tonight's rain and stronger winds should do a good job in keeping the Saturday night nightclub revellers at bay come closing time.

The rain has now become much lighter and more drizzly, but the skies remain very leaden and so, nothing in the way of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 4pm this afternoon.

Nevertheless, today's rainfall total so far as at 4pm this afternoon has now increased to 16.4 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 17.2 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which now makes today the wettest day of this year so far at both of those stations.

Today's maximum temperature was 4.5°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 5°C at Edinburgh Airport and 4.5°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which makes today the coldest day of this so-called "spring" so far by some considerable amount with those values occurring during the very early hours of this morning.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 4pm this afternoon was 2.3°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 2°C at Edinburgh Airport and 2.7°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Roller - coaster of a day in North Northumberland. Rain died out for much of the afternoon and it brightened up a bit but with strong west wind. Temp hit 11.1C at 3.30 - all snow gone except high peaks but distant Scottish hills (Lammermuirs) looked very white at 2pm. Cold front came through around 5pm, heavy shower, dark skies, squally wind and temp back down from 9C to 3C. Cloudy and windy now, 2.5C. 17.5mm rainfall, so March total up to 82mm, 170% of average already, only 2 dry days.
