The squall line has just arrived at this end with blustery rain. 8.9 c & 89% h and the gusty SW wind should die down at any moment.

Looks set to remain dull with rain for the next couple of hours but hopefully might experience a colourful dusk as the clearance arrive by then.

Actually I thought it was purple rather than violet.

There was some decent sunshine for a while during this afternoon which means that a total of 3.5 hours of sunshine has been recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 4pm this afternoon.

Within that period, there has been nothing other than the odd very brief passing shower and so today's rainfall totals so far as at 4pm this afternoon are 5.8 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 4.0 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

It has always been fairly windy throughout today, but the winds have now picked up even more once again and were gusting up to 48.5mph from the SW at Edinburgh Gogarbank with even the mean wind speeds there getting up to 26.1mph at that time.

In addition to that, it has also clouded over here in Edinburgh once again. In fact, it has just suddenly got dark very quickly and as I write, it has also started raining here yet again so it's turned into a very unpleasant day for being out and about.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature was 4.0°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 4°C at Edinburgh Airport and 3.4°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Today's maximum temperature was 9.0°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 8°C at Edinburgh Airport and 9.0°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 4pm this afternoon was 6.7°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 7°C at Edinburgh Airport and 7.4°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Turned out nice again?

After a foul morning/lunch we are now in bright PM air dotted with cumulus towers showing off the sun on their flanks and , most importantly , the river stayed in its banks!!!

A rather horrendous evening here in Edinburgh as Storm Gareth continues to show its presence in these parts.

A rather cloudy end to today means that in the end, a total of 3.6 hours of sunshine was recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

There has been some further rain at times during this evening which has increased today's rainfall total so far as at 8pm this evening to 8.6 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 5.6 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. This now makes today the second wettest day of this year so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

However, it is the wind which is the main talking point of the day and at Edinburgh Gogarbank, the mean wind speeds have peaked at 29.8mph from the SW with maximum gusts of up to to 50.3mph.

With all of that going on, the temperatures aren't dropping at all, and have actually gone up a bit during the last hour, so the temperature at 8pm this evening was 5.3°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 5°C at Edinburgh Airport and 4.7°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Another windy day with near average temperatures. Small amount of rain (2.2mm) with max 8.4C and currently 4.2C

Lost track of how many days there has been like this during this month so far. Must be around 12

A month so turgid, unvaried and uninteresting it makes the winter just gone seem exciting by comparison
