Yet another month in the never ending autumn with day after day of vile unpleasant wind which I detest

Average day temperatures which feel cold and unpleasant due to the pointless and irritating wind and low diurnal ranges at the time of year they should be at their highest.

Did start sunny but how on earth can you enjoy it with this revolting wind? Clouding up now anyway and temperature 6.2C after a min of 2.1C. Simply tedious

This morning has brought us plenty of good sunny spells and so, a total of 2.5 hours of sunshine has been recorded for today so far as at 12 noon.

However, there has also been some cloud around at times during this morning, and even the odd very brief passing shower. Just as I am writing this though, a much heavier shower of rain has just arrived and it has become a bit darker, although this hasn't yet amounted to too much.

In addition to that, the wind has picked up once again, and was gusting up to 34.2mph from the WSW at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 12 noon was 6.5°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 7°C at Edinburgh Airport and 7.3°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Bright 'n' breezy, just got back from the town where at 13 c & 73% h I felt the warmth of the sun (whenever it came out) quite easily when sheltered from the fresh W wind.

Tonight looks properly wet but with lighter winds, which suits me fine as that would coincide with nightclub closing time so it should make for a quiet & uneventful night.

Torrential rain now falling here in Edinburgh with some hail mixed in with that as well, and it has also become very dark for this time of the day as that is happening.

This report is probably going to point out our best example so far of how weather conditions within even the same town or city can be so different for two different stations even when there are within that same town or city and very close to each other.

First of all and Whilst we had that massive downpour at lunchtime, the data from Edinburgh Gogarbank continued to come through as though nothing was happening as so, a total of 5.4 hours of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 4pm this afternoon.

It will be a while before we get today's sunshine total for the botanic gardens in Edinburgh but although that station has generally been sunnier overall than Edinburgh Gogarbank, that is unlikely to be the case today as a result of that much darker period in this part of the city at around lunchtime.

Since today has otherwise been a reasonably sunny day, the sunshine totals for both of those stations should still be fairly decent in the end. However, today's sunshine total at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh is likely to be lower than what it is for Edinburgh Gogarbank due to that rather dark period in the middle of the day which would probably be shown up really well if we were able to get the same detailed stats for that at weathercast.co.uk which we are able to get for Edinburgh Gogarbank.

However, it is the rainfall totals for today which really show up just how localised these convective downpours can be because despite that massive downpour in the middle of today, there has still been no rain at all recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 4pm this afternoon. Yet as at 4pm this afternoon, that downpour has resulted in a total of 2.8 mm of rain being recorded for today so far at the botanic Edinburgh where today will therefore go down as yet another official rain day as a result.

Today's maximum temperature was 7.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 8°C at Edinburgh Airport and 7.5°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh where there quite a massive but temporary drop in the temperature during that massive downpour.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 4pm this evening was 6.8°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 7°C at Edinburgh Airport and 6.8°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

A completely sunny end to today means that in the end, a total of 7.3 hours of sunshine was recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank which makes today, the sunniest day of this spring so far at that station as well as the third sunniest day of this year so far.

For a while, this had resulted in the temperature dropping away under clear skies, especially as the wind has died down as well.

Since then though, it has clouded over again and now, it's raining here in Edinburgh as I write, thanks to some further heavy showers which are in the area just now.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8pm this evening was 3.3°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 3°C at Edinburgh Airport and 2.9°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
