For moment at least, the rain from earlier on appears to have cleared away although it remains rather overcast.

In the end though, the rather impressive total of 14.8 mm of rain fell during yesterday in the end at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 12.2 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. This makes yesterday, the wettest day of this year so far by quite a considerable amount at both of those stations.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 1am this morning was 5.5°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 5°C at Edinburgh Airport and 5.4°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

This morning has started off on another wet and miserable note here in Edinburgh and as I write, it is raining yet again.

It's not quite as wet as it was at this time yesterday but nevertheless, this has still resulted in a total of 3.4 mm of rain being recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8am this morning along with 3.6 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which means that today will now go down as yet another official rain day at both of those stations.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature was 4.7°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 5°C at Edinburgh Airport and 4.8°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was 5.7°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 6°C at Edinburgh Airport and 6.1°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Excrutiating conditions as usual here. Vile deeply unpleasant and mind numbing. Temperature stuck on 6C for over 15 hours with horrid autumnal winds and the amount of rain has been pitiful with just 13mm in the last two days despite hardly letting up.

Just plain miserable and depressing - the kind of day you do not want to step out into.

The rain has eased off for now, but we remain under constant grey skies and a dull and overcast nothingness and the result of this is that nothing in the way of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon.

The rain which we have had this morning as now increased today's rainfall totals so far as at 12 noon to 4.8 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 5.0 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 12 noon was 7.3°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 8°C at Edinburgh Airport and 7.1°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Apart from a sharp shower at around noon time, today is turning out to be a generally cheerful enough fair ol' day with some sunny breaks. Even the brisk westerly breeze is doing an excellent job in drying things up quickly, aside from making the current 10.7 c & 74% h feel cool & fresh.

Could do a lot worse, considering.

This afternoon started off with the odd spot of rain still around in the wind at times with cloudy skies around for most of the time. Furthermore, the wind has picked up a bit and was gusting up to 29.8mph from the NNW at 4pm this afternoon at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

Apart from that though, the weather has been slowly improving as the afternoon went on as the clouds gradually thinned a bit, and started to eventually allow the Sun to be seen through them. That has led us to the point where the Sun is now shining as I write and as a result of that, a total of 6 minutes of sunshine has now been recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 4pm this afternoon which means that we have at least managed to avoid having to experience back to back completely sunless days on this occasion.

Today's maximum temperature was 7.9°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 8°C at Edinburgh Airport and 8.1°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 4pm this afternoon was 7.5°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 8°C at Edinburgh Airport and 7.9°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

A much brighter end to today means that in the end, a total of half an hour of sunshine was recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank and although that is a really abysmal total for this time year, it is at least better than nothing under the circumstances.

There is still a lot of cloud around, but tonight's conditions are a massive improvement on what we have seen on other recent nights and since there are also some clear spells at times now, the temperatures are also falling away.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8pm this evening was 4.8°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 5°C at Edinburgh Airport and 4.8°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
