The more unsettled weather which had been predicted for a while by the models has now finally arrived, and it is now raining here in Edinburgh as I write.

Until then, we were just an hour away from yesterday going down as being completely dry once again but in the end, a total of 0.4 mm of rain was recorded for yesterday at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 1.0 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh where yesterday will therefore go down as the first official rain day of both this month and this spring as a result.

After dropping for a while, the temperatures then started to go back up a bit just an hour or so before the rain set in and so, the temperature at midnight was 7.7°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 8°C at Edinburgh Airport and 6.1°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

The rain from earlier on has cleared away although it has resulted in 0.6 mm of rain being recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 2.6 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh where today will therefore go down as another official rain day as a result.

For a while, the skies had cleared as well, but it has now clouded over once again to give us a rather dull, dreary and uninspiring start to the first weekend of the meteorological spring.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature was 6.6°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 6°C at Edinburgh Airport and 4.7°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was 8.0°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 8°C at Edinburgh Airport and 7.4°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

For a while during this morning, the clouds had broke up nicely and as a result of that, a total of 1.1 hours of sunshine has been recorded for today so far as at 12 noon.

Once again though, it has now clouded over from the west.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 12 noon was 10.2°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 10°C at Edinburgh Airport and 10.6°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

While there has been a fair amount of cloud so far today, the sun is currently out providing solar input into my famed west-facing hobby room.
Also drying up after a damp start with 0.4 mm of rain during the night.

A mild 11.5 c & 86% h, more so with the sun being out despite a moderate SW breeze.

The wind has picked up by quite a lot and was now gusting to 31.1mph from the south at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 4pm this afternoon.

There has also been some rain at times which has increased today's rainfall total so far as at 4pm this afternoon to 1.8 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 3.4 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. This means that for the first time this month and for this spring, today will now go down as an official rain day at both of those stations.

However, there has also been some brightness at times with the Sun coming out occasionally, although there has been no further additions to today's sunshine totals since my last report here. This means that a total of just 1.1 hours of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 4pm this afternoon.

Today's maximum temperature was 10.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 10°C at Edinburgh Airport and 10.6°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 4pm this afternoon was 9.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 10°C at Edinburgh Airport and 10.2°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

I have a newly installed 6 x 3 metre polytunnel.

The weather station has been moved in there for the month of March for experimental purposes.

A bit similar to the Jiries shed temperature cc's circa 2005 ish.

Max today in there was 13.7c following a min of 8.2c.

Currently 10.2c with an RH of 87% and calm.

That bit of brightness which was around for a while during this afternoon didn't last for long and in the end, a total of just 1.2 hours of sunshine was recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

Furthermore, it also remains very windy with maximum wind gusts during this evening of up to 41.6mph from the WSW at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8pm this evening.

There was also some further rain during the latter part of this afternoon and early part of this evening which as at 8pm this evening, has increased today's rainfall totals so far to 2.6 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 4.4 mm st the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

However, that rain has now cleared away and the skies are now much clearer.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8pm this evening was 7.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 7°C at Edinburgh Airport and 7.4°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
