First of all, I would live to wish a happy Valentine's Day to those of you who will be celebrating that in one way or another.

The end of today will now take to the exact halfway point in this month and then after that, we will then have just exactly two more weeks of this so-called "winter" left to endure (not that it's exactly been much of a winter anyway).

At the moment, there is only a small amount of cloud around with plenty of clear sky as I write. In spite of that however, the temperatures are still refusing to drop as a result of there being too much wind around.

Meanwhile, the temperature at midnight was 9.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 9°C at Edinburgh Airport and 9.4°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

This morning is a bit brighter than of late and the Sun is currently shining here in Edinburgh through some high cloud.

A lot of cloud has come and gone during the night and it is still fairly windy as well, although not quite as windy as it was during the early hours of this morning. However, that cloud and wind has meant that the temperatures during the night have refused once again to drop and so, our frost-free hell goes on.

Last night's minimum temperature was 8.5°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 9°C at Edinburgh Airport and 8.2°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which makes last night, the mildest night of this year so far.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was 8.6°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 6°C at Edinburgh Airport and 8.6°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Groundhog hell continues. Worse than ever with the temperature dropping no lower than 7.8C overnight and now another morning of soul destroying grey rubbish.

What a SAD depressing and boring month February is turning into.

Fine and sunny. A bit of a nip in the air at 8 c & 87% h after a low of 3 c at 6 am but very little wind.

Winter 2019 . . . you're alright.  Much more preferable to what it was like on this day 5 years ago.

Cracking morning in London, clear blue skies and a nip in the air but the promise of warm sunshine to come.

Overnight low of -3C was a lot lower than I was expecting (and was forecast) too.

I think I remember in Gavin's thoughts last Saturday that he predicted that the high pressure might be cloudy.  If the MetO were expecting the same, and it has been clear instead, perhaps that explains the unexpected fog and frost.

Today has brought us just a little bit of sunshine at times, but also plenty of cloud which means that in the end, a total of just 1.8 hours of sunshine was recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

Today's maximum temperature was 10.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 10°C at Edinburgh Airport and 10.9°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, so today was another mild day here in Edinburgh, though not quite as mild as what it has been on other recent days.

Towards the end of the day, the skies have become much clearer and the temperatures are now falling away quite sharply in response to that, and the fact that the wind has died away as well. At the moment, it's still not all that cold for this of the year, but it is a lot cooler than what it has been recently as a result.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8pm this evening was 4.3°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 4°C at Edinburgh Airport and 4.2°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
