Clear with an official air frost being recorded at Edinburgh Airport and the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, which is quite good going for a week which was forecast to be milder than of late.

In the end, just 1.0 mm of rain fell during yesterday at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 0.6 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at midnight was 0.2°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, -1°C at Edinburgh Airport and -0.9°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Yep, a little chilly blip in the mild run. Clear, calm, -1.2 C @ 95% RH .. probably the last air frost here for a while unless we get another clear transient ridge. Pressure has risen to 1021 mb.

Not so much as a sniff at a frost here in North Northumberland, because of course that westerly wind is blasting down my street as usual, so the temp has fallen just 1c since 5pm, to read around 3c. Hope it will do the old trick of backing south before dawn otherwise we'll lucky to see another frost for weeks....

A cold and frosty start to this morning with an official air frost being recorded at all three of my local stations.

This has then, taken us into yet another sunny morning so far within what is turning out to be an extraordinarily sunny month in this part of the world so far, although some high cloud has started to move in from the west ahead of the next Atlantic weather system.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was -2.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, -3°C at Edinburgh Airport and -2.7°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

EDIT:

Dense freezing fog has now just closed in here.

Today has actually been quite an eventful day in terms of our weather, for once (yes, even in the most boring part of the UK when it comes to our weather, the weather can actually be quite interesting on the odd occasion).

First of all, there was the fog which I reported earlier on this morning. That came down all of a sudden so that we then very quickly went from bright sunshine, to barely being able to see in front of our faces as that closed in.

That fog wasn't around for long and it wasn't long before the Sun then came out once again. Very soon after that though, it then clouded over as it had been forecast to do and now, it's raining  here in Edinburgh as I write.

The result of all of this is that overall, a total of just 54 minutes of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 2pm this afternoon and although it's still fairly early in the afternoon, that is probably going to be our lot for today in that department.

Last night's overnight minim temperature was -2.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, -3°C at Edinburgh Airport and -2.7°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature as at 2pm has now recovered to 3.3°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 4°C at Edinburgh Airport and 4.6°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Here in Edinburgh, it's been a thoroughly wet and miserable late afternoon and evening so that in the end, the rather abysmal total of just 54 minutes of sunshine was recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank with nothing at all in that department since 10am this morning.

There was a respite from the rain for a while during this evening, but it has now just started raining here once again. So far as at 8pm this evening, a total of 5.6 mm of rain has fallen during today at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 6.4 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

This means that today will now go down as an official rain day at both of those stations as a result and in addition to that, this also makes today the wettest day of this year so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank, and the wettest day of this winter so far at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

With all of that going on then unlike on other recent nights, the temperatures are refusing to drop as a result of there being too much cloud around. In actual fact, the temperatures have gone up a bit during the last hour or so, and are now higher than what they have been at any other time during today.

With that in mind, the temperature at 8pm this evening was 3.9°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 5°C at Edinburgh Airport and 5.8°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
