Cold, clear and frosty with an official air frost at all three of my local stations (for once, the temperature is actually behaving itself by dropping when I want it to do instead of refusing to do so).

Meanwhile, the temperature at midnight was -2.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, -4°C at Edinburgh Airport and -3.3°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Temp refusing to fall very far in North Northumberland, beautifully clear but there's that persistent westerly wind that is actually getting stronger. I think our coldest night will be Thursday when it backs to the south. -1 c.

It's a rare event to get frost and snow at the same time on this part of the island and today is no exception.

Clear breezy NNW with a slight hoar frost and 0C.

It is actually snowing moderately at this coastal end, but just simply too wet for any settling at 1.3 c with the dp a whisker above freezing, although there is a slight covering over them thar hills and a brisk NE wind is adding a wind chill.

After a cold and frosty night where so much frost had built up that you would almost have thought that it had been snowing, the Sun is now shining here in Edinburgh as I write with barely a single cloud to be seen anywhere.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature was -4.2°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, -6°C at Edinburgh Airport and -4.1°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh where last night was the coldest night night of this winter so far.

So far, this has been a much better month for official air frosts than what December was and if we get that cold end to this month which the models are pointing towards, the number of official air frosts during this month could yet end up being above the 1981-2010 average for that (we only need to record another 2 more days with an official air frost between now and the end of this month for that to happen to Edinburgh Gogarbank, and one more day with an official air frost during that time for that to happen at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh). For what has been a very poor winter here until now in every other way, that isn't too bad at all.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 9am this morning was -3.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, -4°C at Edinburgh Airport and -4.0°C at the botanic gardens.

A completely sunny morning means that a total of 2.9 hours of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon.

With that sunshine, the temperature has shot up by quite a lot (which is why we need some snow cover to stop that from happening), although it is still very cold.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 12 noon was 0.5°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 0°C at Edinburgh Airport and 0.2°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
