Now that we have just entered another new month, I can now confirm that the final total for January comes out as 10.2 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 12.2 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

For Edinburgh Gogarbank, this is 13.4% of the 1981-2010 average for that station whilst the botanic gardens in Edinburgh had 18.1% of its 1981-2010 average rainfall during January.

Overall, this shows that January was a substantially drier than average month at both of those stations in terms of the actual rainfall amounts. It was possibly the driest January at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh since 1953, and almost certainly the driest January on record at Edinburgh Gogarbank in terms of that being a station record, as that is very much a relatively new station which hasn't even been around for anything like as long as other stations such as the one at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

In addition to that, Edinburgh Gogarbank had 4 official rain days during January and this shows that it was a substantially drier than average month there in terms of the number of official rain days since that amounts to 29.4% of the 1981-2010 average. It is a similar story at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which also had 4 official rain days with that amounting to 32.0% of the 1981-2010 average.

I can also confirm that the total for the winter so far is 48.0 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 46.0 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh as at midnight going into 1 February 2019.

For Edinburgh Gogarbank, this is 24.8% of the 1981-2010 average whilst the botanic gardens in Edinburgh has had 26.2% of its 1981-2010 average during the winter so far as at midnight going into 1 February 2019.

In addition to that, Edinburgh Gogarbank has had 12 official rain days during this winter so far which is 33.1% of the 1981-2010 average whereas the botanic gardens in Edinburgh has had 13 official rain days during this winter so far which is 39.0% of the 1981-2010 average.

I can also confirm that during 2019 so far, Edinburgh Gogarbank has had a total of 10.2 mm of rain as at midnight going into 1 February 2019 which is 1.4% of the 1981-2010 average, whilst the botanic gardens in Edinburgh has had a total of 12.2 mm of rain during 2019 so far as at midnight going into 1 February 2019, which is 1.7% of the 1981-2010 average.

In addition to that, Edinburgh Gogarbank has had 4 official rain days so far during 2019 as at midnight going into 1 February 2019 which is 2.9% of the 1981-2010 average whereas the botanic gardens in Edinburgh has also had 4 official rain days during 2019 so far at at midnight going into 1 February 2019 which is 3.2% of the 1981-2010 average.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

A very dry January here with a total of only 19mm (38% of average).

It's our driest January since 2006, which also had 19mm.
