This morning has started off on a fairly clear note, but the resulting late dip in the temperatures which has come with that, has come nowhere near to being enough to give us a frost. An earlier shower of rain has resulted in 0.2 mm of rain being recorded for today so far at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh as at 8am this morning, but Edinburgh Gogarbank is still completely dry so far as I write.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was 2.6°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 4°C at Edinburgh Airport and 1.6°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

It's beyond surreal how awful this winter is. Clear skies and light winds, as we have this morning, should be a banker for frost at this time of year. However it has dropped no lower than 4.2C which is the current temperature. Dreadful.

Now mostly clear with some broken areas of cloud.  Light SW wind.

The sun is out after showers this morning gave me another 4.6 mm. Since the wind is now in from the SW, I'm being more sheltered by it and thus the 9.7 c felt quite mild when I popped out to get the papers.

Just been caught out in a mini thunderstorm with a beautiful though alarmingly close flash of lightning - I was out on a field with the dogs!

Here in Edinburgh, a completely sunny afternoon means that a total of 4.5 hours of sunshine was recorded for today in the end at Edinburgh Gogarbank which makes today, our second sunniest day of both this month and this winter so far.

This means that a total of just at least 3.4 hours of sunshine are needed during the last 12 days of this month in order for this month to go down as being sunnier than average. That is an average of just 17 minutes of sunshine per day, and the overall required total can now be achieved in a single day.

However, there is more in the way of cloud around now, albeit with some clear spells as well although there is an area of heavy rain approaching from the SW according to the latest radar map.

Today's maximum temperature was 8.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 8°C at Edinburgh Airport and 7.6°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 4pm this afternoon was 6.6°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 6°C at Edinburgh Airport and 6.0°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Yet another cloudy evening here in Edinburgh with nothing that is even remotely interesting in terms of our weather actually happening, and with the temperatures refusing to drop yet again due to there being too much cloud around. A recent shower has resulted in 0.2 mm of rain being recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8pm this evening but that is such a tiny amount that it isn't even worth bothering about.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8pm this evening was 5.9°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 6°C at Edinburgh Airport and 5.9°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Showery rain rattling in from the Channel as I type this, just about approaching the 12 mm mark since 12 am. 9.4 c but the brisk SW wind is making it feel colder than that.

Further showers has bumped it up to 15 mm dead on, thought I'd get that in before the 12 am station reset.
