The rain from earlier on is clearing away now, and the actual amounts which have been recorded from that at my local nearby stations are once again, ridiculously small when you consider how heavy this rain was at times, and the bright colours which have been showing up here in the rain radar map over this area for large parts of this evening.

Now, the rainfall gap between here and the rest of the UK has probably just got even greater as a result, even though a total of 5.6 mm of rain was recorded for yesterday in the end at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 4.0 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

In addition to that, the temperatures are still refusing to drop due to there being too much cloud around and so, the temperature at midnight was 4.6°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 5°C at Edinburgh Airport and 4.7°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

A fairly cold and clear start to this morning with a few icy patches, and with an official air frost being recorded at all three of my local stations.

However, a total of 0.2 mm of rain has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank thanks to the odd shower or two earlier on, along with 0.4 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh (it is funny that we couldn't get a single air frost during that recent so-called "cold" spell and yet now that we are into what is meant to be a "less cold" spell of weather overall, we now get that elusive air frost).

Last night's overnight minimum temperature was -0.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, -1°C at Edinburgh Airport and -0.6°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was 0.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 0°C at Edinburgh Airport and -0.6°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

The horror show joke winter continues. Despite clear skies the temperature has once again failed to drop below freezing with a min of 1.3C. Beyond pathetic.

Calm, mainly cloud, 4C.

Garden still about 60% snow-covered, and 3 snowmen built by grandkids yesterday still 3-4 feet high!

A sunny start to this morning has resulted in a total of 24 minutes of sunshine being recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon. However, more cloud is building up now as that weak warm front approaches from the west, which is forecast to reach us by tonight.

After my last report, the temperature fell a bit further, so the actual minimum temperature in the end was -0.9°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, -2°C at Edinburgh Airport and -0.9°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Since then, the temperatures have recovered a little bit although there is still some patchy frost and ice around as I write, especially in those more sheltered areas which the Sun can't get to at this time of year.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 12 noon was 4.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 1°C at Edinburgh Airport and 1.8°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

With just an hour to go until the sun sets behind the hilly built up area, today is turning out to be a fine sunny cloud-free day.

The 9.9 c & 84% felt spring-like mild in the sunshine and light wind when I just popped out.

More of this, please. Much more preferable to the recent cloudy & cold weather and the wet & windy stuff over the weekend.

This afternoon brought some further brightness at times and in the end, a total of 1.5 hours of sunshine was recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank. That now leaves us needing a total of just at least another 7.9 hours of sunshine during the last 14 days of this month (which is an average of at least 33.9 minutes of sunshine per day) in order for this month to go down as being sunnier than average overall.

However, it has now turned a lot cloudier as that next weather system approaches from the west, and that usually means that the temperature will be refusing to drop as we go further into the evening as a result.

Today's maximum temperature was 7.2°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 7°C at Edinburgh Airport and 5.8°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 4pm this afternoon was 4.8°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 6°C at Edinburgh Airport and 4.9°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

It's still overcast here in Edinburgh and in my last post on this thread, I mentioned the fact that this usually results in the temperature refusing to drop at night. On this occasion though, what's actually happened is that the temperature has jumped up by quite a lot over the last few hours to the point where it has now risen to above those maximum temperatures which were reported for this neck of the woods by both myself and Jerry earlier on today on this thread.

Over on the moaning thread, richardabdn mentioned that he wouldn't be surprised if the temperature in his area rose into double figures at some point in time during tonight, and it wouldn't surprise me if that ended up happening here as well, going by what is happening just now.

In the meantime though, the temperature at 8pm this evening was now up to 8.3°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 8°C at Edinburgh Airport and 7.7°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
