I've only had 2 C max here in the shadow of Blackford Hill, John. The frost has persisted all day. I am in complete shadow here from early December to mid - January. No sun can be recorded for about 5 weeks due to Blackford Hill immediately to my south

This makes today, our second sunniest day of both this month and this winter so far and although we haven't quite reached the halfway point of this month so far, that also means that we need a total of at least 13.2 hours of sunshine between now and the end of this month, in order for this month to go down as being sunnier than average overall with that accolade having already been clinched for this entire year before we even went into this month.
Today's maximum temperature was 4.2°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 4°C at Edinburgh Airport and 3.9°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, so today was the coldest day of both this month and this winter so far at all three of my local stations. However, today still hasn't been all that cold for this time of year at any of those stations, especially when you consider that it was around this time last year that we had our first official ice day of last winter.
Nevertheless, the temperatures are already dropping away nicely under those clear skies and so, the temperature at 4pm this afternoon was already down to 0.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 1°C at Edinburgh Airport and 1.6°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.
