The clouds broke up a lot more during the afternoon, and the Sun made a very brave effort to be seen through the remaining layers of cirrostratus to my south. However, those efforts were proved to be in vain and despite the fact there has been a lot of blue sky around during this afternoon, nothing in the way of sunshine was recorded for today in the end at Edinburgh Gogarbank.
That makes today the 5th completely sunless day of this winter and yet, this has not been a day which deserves to be recorded in that matter in my books. That was even more noticeable when I returned home a short time ago under clear skies with a waxing crescent Moon clearly visible to my south because with conditions like that so soon after sunset, you wouldn't believe that today was technically, a completely sunless day.
However, that is an indication of just how harsh, this time of year can be in that regard since the days are so short just now that even if the sky is mostly clear, it is still very easy to have no recorded sunshine at all as a result of what little in the way of cloud that there is, constantly following the Sun around the sky. Today was one of those days which were like that and I'm sure that had this been any other time of year, we would no doubt have got some recorded sunshine during today, and possibly even a decent sunshine total to boot.
Anyway, those clear skies will be good news for tonight if they remain that way and with the winds now being that much lighter, the temperatures have already started to drop in response to that. As at 4pm this afternoon, the temperature was around 4°C.
