There is now more in the way of clear sky around, but it is still very windy with the wind at Edinburgh Gogarbank still gusting up tp 39.1mph from the west as at midnight.

In the end, a total of 6.0 mm of rain fell during yesterday at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 4.0 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. This makes yesterday, the wettest day of both this month and this winter so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

Meanwhile, the temperature at midnight was 8.0°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 8°C at Edinburgh Airport and 8.0°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh as the temperature is still generally, refusing to drop due to there being far too much wind around.

The skies are much clearer this morning, but it is still very windy with maximum wind gusts at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8am this morning of up to 40.4mph from the west although the showers from last night have now gone.

As usual, the high winds prevented the temperatures from falling yet again as this so-called "winter" increasingly turns more and more into a complete non-event over time, so that the temperature at 8am this morning was 8.6°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 9°C at Edinburgh Airport and 8.2°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

After what has been a decent enough morning with good sunny spells, cloud has increased now but is staying dry as the brisk west wind is doing an excellent job in shifting the dampness.

Various banks of cloud have come and gone during this morning, but there has been some fairly decent sunny spells as well with a total of 36 minutes of sunshine being recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon. That might not seem like much, but that is actually only the first recorded sunshine of this so-called "winter" which has occurred during a weekend, despite the fact that we are now into the second weekend of this winter.

The wind has started to die down a little bit as well, although it was still gusting up to 28.6mph from the WSW at 12 noon at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 12 noon was 8.8°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 9°C at Edinburgh Airport and 8.8°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Heavy rain at 17.30hrs - still in progress.

There have been heavy showers passing through most of the day.

4pm went on a beer run to the local brewery - surface water on roads, dykes looking fuller than usual.

This afternoon became much cloudier over time but in the end, a total of 1.5 hours of sunshine was recorded for today in the end, albeit with nothing at all in that department since 1pm this afternoon.

There was a few spots of light rain later on and a total of 0.2 mm of rain has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 4pm this afternoon along with 0.2 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. That is enough to extend our long run of days without a completely dry day to an astonishing 21 days (which now adds up to three weeks) in a row. However, this is just the same old story yet again where we just cannot get any sort of really big rainfall amounts and with most of today's rain being shown on the radar maps as staying just to the south of here, this is yet another day where I can only expect that rainfall gap between here and the rest of the UK (at least in terms of what is being reported on this forum) to widen even further as a result.

Today's maximum temperature was again, reached during the early hours of this morning and this was 8.9°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 9.0°C at Edinburgh Airport and 9°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 4pm this afternoon was 6.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 6°C at Edinburgh Airport and 6.6°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
